Chris Hughton

by Zammo » 28 Oct 2010 08:24

According to TalkSport's Northeast correspondent this morning, Houghton's job has been 'put out there' for the last two weeks. Rather surprisingly, Pardew ( ) is the favourite.

What a disgrace it'll be if Houghton was given the chop. What exactly has he done wrong ? Promotion at the first attempt, and a steady start with an ordinary squad this season. Can Premiership football get any lower by dismissing one of the few managers who has actually done a good job since his appointment.

The rumours in the press room last night was that he was going to go straight after the game. Without their new man in place, Newcastle are just buying time with that statement.

I don't think the statement said what job the new contract would be for did it?

He seems a dead man walking from the moment he cleared out the squad and did the hard work of getting them straight last season.

I think I heard that a few of the bookies closed the book on him being the next manager to get the boot yesterday, although that doesn't mean much as manager markets seem to be just about the most erratic going.

This is another example of Newcastle believing they are better than what they actually are.........

Thing is, who is saying his job is under threat? - its only the media reading into something that isn't there......

Where there's smoke.. the media/bookies aren't often wrong when it comes to managers losing their jobs.

Surprised someone has mocked Pardew being linked with Newcastle. He did a very good job at West Ham before they were bought out by that Icelandic group and the chairman started meddling with team affairs and signings.

I know quite a few Newcastle supporters but none of them think like that. There's no doubting they're a big football club, they just want to be competitive and get their hands on some silverware.

He's been given a vote of confidence. That usually means you're on your way.

Yes he did a really great job at West Ham(not) where his lack of man management skills came to the fore and anybody who thought that Tevez and Mascherano weren't good enough to make the first team at a very moderate West Ham is clearly a prat of the highest order.

But he didn't want to bring those players in, that was the point. He had a settled team and to be fair they were doing very well. A similar finish to us in their first season back in the top flight and then an FA Cup final appearance. It was the meddling new ownership that started the decline.

Isn't that just because they fan the flames of a small minority and start making a bigger minority, or majority, start thinking that if it's getting all this publicity it must be true and some thing needs to happen.

We're tribal by nature and desperate to be led.
