TBM Thing is, lino didn't flag for the handball - ref didn't give the handball.........so why did Spurs presume that a free kick was given. Ok i know it was obvious but without the whistle being blown to indicate a free kick to Tottenham then how can they disput it?

Yes there was a handball, but the ball was in the keeper's hands, so there was a clear advantage to just let him play on. Gomes didn't play on, he put the ball down.

In a similar way to the Liverpool goal a few weeks ago, just because a player screws up he can't then whine to the ref about what he thinks the ref should have done.

IMHO the ref got it badly wrong, Nani's deliberate handball went unpunished to give Spurs the advantage, there was none so play should get pulled back.

United get away with a deliberate handball and score a goal. Not only that but Scholes gets away with barging into the ref and Rio gets away with telling the officials how to officiate.

cmonurz Common sense should apply.

I never go with the common sense arguement.

All you ever hear is managers/players/fans calling for consistency. If you want consistency you apply the letter of the law. "Common Sense" is basically the complete opposite, or making it up as you go along. Then you will get incosistent decisions depending on the ref.

I find the lack of "Steve Bruce has a big fat head" from the Newcastle fans disappointing.

Pisspoor decision by the ref to allow Sunderland to wear their home shirts. I haven't a clue which team is which in the long shots.

The advantage law has to be applied fairly and consistently too. An advantage should be clear, not based on the team now in possession of the ball taking a pre-determined course of action. Advantage should also be fluent, i.e. a player is fouled but the ball breaks in a good possession for an attacking team. Not 'Nani deliberately handled it but Gomes has the ball so that's alright'.

If Gomez thought it was a free kick then why didn't he put the ball down where Nani handled the ball?

:|

The only thing clearer than the Nani handball was that Gomes thought it was a free-kick.

Because noone does that aggers, I believe Gary Neville invented it. Anyways, I'm torn between it being an appaling fvck up by the officials and it being a giant LOLz @ Tottenham. Given that it didn't affect the result I'll stick with the latter, Rio'sstill a pcunter though.

As for today's football, SunderLOLand and were the Sky pundits that worried we'd find something better to do if they didn't convince us the game wasn't all over at half time?

So the Newcastle manager is going to be sacked then?
Not after that result.

Read the other day that Hodgson has won something like 4 out of his last 40 away games in the Premier League. Atrocious. Liverpool playing 442 now though with Cole off injured, so maybe they'll nick a winner.

And LOL @ the brilliant stat on MOTD last night, Spurs away record against the 'big' four since 1993 is P68, W0.

No, played 68, drawn 20, lost 48.

68 makes sense for 17 years worth of games, if you think about it.

Have you actually seen Bolton play in the past 6 months, or are you basing that opinion on one season, 8 years ago, like the majority of the football establishment does?

Yep, I've seen bolton play a tonne, but what makes you think I am singling them out? Liverpool play crap boring football also. As it proved, a dire 1-0 win to Liverpool. Point proven.
