On a RFC related note, that'll surely see Dillon out of a job.

the only regret is that more than a few"aldershot" fans contrived to spoil a great day for dover. i hope they get a plum tie in the next round.

Not true. It was the day John Major became leader of the Conservative party. November 27th 1990. We lost 3-1 and Martin Hicks scored an OG. People complain about shit football nowadays should remember games like that.

Bloody useless I was hoping for a nostalgic trip to the Rec in round 3. At least for the chance to show the newbies what the highlight of our season was back in the 70's and 80's.

That was one of the worst performances I have ever seen from a Reading team. Hicks' og was a header from the edge of the area. :(

After being "confronted" by Aldershots answer to Danny Dyer and his mob of Jeremy Kyle stars in the Walkabout in Shepherds Bush the other week on their quest to "come see you Reading cnuts" I wouldn't have minded a cheeky draw in the 3rd round but never mind.

"so you're from Bracknell?"
"yeah mate"
"so I guess that makes you a Reading cnut"
"I guess it does yeah"
"Bracknell's a shithole"
"Aldershot's alright aswell"....

Intimidation at it's best!

Aldershot fans are deluded. Dillon's has been getting crucified ever since day one. They think their club is massive and should on par with Reading which will never happen. Kev got them in the play offs which was incredible. Instead of a car park like Oxford United, they have advertisement boards behind the goal. SHOTS FANS THINK THEY SHOULD OF BEATEN DOVER EASILY SO A MINORITY BELIEVED SPITTING ON THEIR OWN PLAYERS AT FULL TIME IS A NICE THING TO DO.

That performance was shocking and probably the worst I have ever seen. It was the closest I have come to questioning my loyalty.

I was actually rooting for them so we'd get them in the next round and trounce them. But getting well beaten by a non-league side is good too I guess.

"never" is quite an assumption. one club has been up and down the divisions like a tarts knickers, the other only up, to date.

a shame for Young, Hallsy, Blakey and Kev I'm sure. Although the shots were were gracious in defeat, you have to go for the underogs, and those underdogs had already won that grudge match at the Priestfield.

a small run of victories will help increase Dills shares once again I'm sure

It's a mere comparision of the two towns. I'm saying they will never get the support, fanbase and stadium Reading has.

...or even had when we were still at Elm Park.

And yes, it's true that Aldershot Town have been promoted 5 times, but three of those promotions were from divisions where a three figure crowd is typically prefixed with "bumper", while the Rymans League average was only a few hundred. Rather than being hailed as success, such achievements really were little more than a minmum requirement.

From being the "big boys" in their non-league days, Aldershot now have to face the grim reality of being poorly supported by League Two standards, in a stadium ill-equipped to generate extra revenue.

The ground being council owned, is what saved the club when it went bust. Had they had to play exiled at Cove FC or something like that, they'd never have kept their existing fan base and would probably still be bobbing around in the Rymans League.

Unfortunately for them, the ground being council owned is also what's holding them back now, as they can't sell it to build a better place that might attract more fans and generate more income.

And never forget that the army presence in Aldershot is much smaller than it previously was - in the 40s 7 50s during the days of national service there was a massive number of squaddies there who were a great boost to their attendances.

Not any more.
