Alan Partridge Quite simply they are one of very very few clubs whose local community couldn't be arsed to keep them going and allowed them to fold.

For a sample of Aldershot's numbers of 'support' the Day of celebrations video on youtube couldn't be more apt.

Having visited it recently, Aldershot have the sort of ground that quite a few team board posters are nostalgic for.

I like my grounds to be 4 sided and hold more than Scours Lane. Other than that, spot on.

To be honest, it doesn't even have to have stands. An open terrace would count as a "side" in my book.

How long can Aldershot keep that terrace open before having to make it all seater? Are there plans for a new stadium now you're back in the Football League?

In all honesty, Aldershot are a very small club with limited potential. But perhaps a purpose build 8500 all seater stadium would be good for the club. Get a few more bums on seats, albeit families, burger eating sat in your seat eating chips families. Other than a wealthy benefactor taking the club on it's hard to see what sort of future the club has. Perhaps repeating history and folding for a second time.

Hello!

i believe the home terrace roof is made from old Anderson shelters. I'd rather watch my football under that than in the Madejski.

Now that we have a large modern stadium and have established ourselves as a Championship Club (for the time being) I have tried to retain perspective and not to look down my nose too much at Clubs who were our peers not so long ago but have not been as fortunate as us in their recent past. I would include Clubs like Bournemouth and Brentford in this catagory. However, even in our lower division days at Elm Park I could never stop myself looking down at Aldershot. They were pretty much always a Fourth Division Club, or equivalent as the division names changed, then anyway but that was certainly their level as a Club in my view. These days I don't even think of them as any sort of local rival even though they were very much in there with Swindon and Oxford at one time.

I am afraid since they formed a new Club, time at the Recreation Ground has stood still and the ground has remained suspended in time whilst many, many Clubs have improved their grounds and not just those that have been League Clubs whilst the new Aldershot made their way up the pyramid. Certainly ground wise now I do not view them as a League Club and in fact I would say it is no better than a large Conference South ground. Even their neighbours Farnborough, who similalry went out of business and reformed, have a much more modern ground now and much better suited to their level. A Club as small as Wycombe Wanderers who, not that long ago would have viewed a Cup Tie against Aldershot as a plum tie, have a better ground although I do understand why there are people who would prefer to watch a match at a ground like Aldershot then a ground like Wycombe.

Aldershot did get decent attendances when moving through the leagues so on that basis I would say as a Club they are just about Conference National level so did well to get into the League for the first time and even better to reach the play offs last season having lost the Manager who brought them into the League. If Dill can keep them anywhere around mid table in that League he will be doing a decent job.

Back to the videoz.

Love the Police presence, on copper on his bike, shooing people out of the road.

And the courtage including an fat spotty mother pushing a buggy.

Evey time you see it you find another gem.

For as long as they stay out of the top two tiers of English footballs, and even then they have 2 years' grace under current legislation.

They did have some grief earlier this year about stone throwing in the ground, and needed to make some urgent alterations to the end terrace to meet safety criteria - forget the exact details of this, though.

But whilst it's adequate for their supporters, what's the need to move grounds? Is there a vast, untapped, market for Aldershot matches they'd be able to meet with a new ground?

Why would I get nostalgic for a Conference-standard ground when I go an watch Bath city every month?

Both of them were probably enjoying a nice ploughmans lunch while that spaz fest was going on.
