T.R.O.L.I.
frimmers3 is there a better qualified manager than pardew to facilitate a swift return to the championship for newcastle?

Neil Warnock / Aidy Boothroyd / Tony Mowbray immediately spring to mind.

At least Pardew managed to keep West Ham up in the PL for a season before he got the sack....

Steve Coppell?

^ Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Coppell last stint in the PL also lasted more than one season?

You might be right, how many times has he been relegated though?

How about Dave Bassett, he's got good experience of relegation hasn't he?

I'm looking forward to Pards geordie accent that will no doubt make an appearance. 'I fort we was a fret like'.

Average manager, tactically clueless and his bully boy tactics will get found out. Will be gone before the end of the season.

This is the manager who couldn't find a place in the West Ham team for Tevez and Mascherano but regularly found a place for Jonathon Spector.
So expect Nolan and Carroll not to feature much.
BTW I had a bet at the start of the season on Newcastle to be relegated at 7/1-it might not happen but I think they will give me a good run for my money.

I doubt that Ahley could have made a worse appointment in the eyes of the fans:-
A big-headed Southerner with no link to the club other than being up the chairman 's a***e (maybe literally if Alan's sexual exploits are not exaggerated)who has been sacked from his last 3 jobs-not the normal CV for a club that is nearly as big as it thinks it is.
If I were Pardew I would make sure that Beardsley or some other Geordie favourite becomes his no.2-he would at least then have a chance.

Tbf Spector looked there best player in the Cup and there was a lot more going on with Tevez and co. Remember Pardew saying it got to the point where they didn't know if they could play them or not.

Such a crazy appointment, but given the Geordie clowns reactions to Shearer and Keegan's appointments, Pards will prob do alright.

Does anyone have access to the banner at Villa when Newcastle got relegated; it said something like "Who's your next Messiah? Ant & Dec?"

(To be fair, they would probably do no worse than Pards will...)

I think you'll find that was cos they were "bought" without his blessing

Pards will be way out of his depth there. This apointment has no logic behind it? How will he be any better than Houghton?

Mascherano especially looked like he was struggling to settle in at the time, which might not've been helped by the manager not really wanting him there I guess.

It's good that an English manager is getting the chance (obviously just replacing another one though!) instead of just going for a big name from the continent but I do agree Pardew is an odd choice. There's nothing to justify it.

Our very own MaccyD texting into SquawkSport endorsing the appointment and extolling the virtues of Pards.

Newcastle, comedy club of the north. How can you honestly sack Hughton and say he isn't show business enough and then appoint Pardew. AshLOLey.

Odd choice I will admit but I think he could do well there. They really dont have a bad side, and hes not that bad of a manager. There are a lot of worse teams in the Prem than newcastle thats for sure.

He was also rumoured to be paying Shearer £1m a game when "Mr Newcastle" was manager a couple of years ago.

I think that's a bit harsh on Mick Gooding.
