Still more interesting than watching shane long in front of goal.

By far the biggest supported club in Italy. Just that most supporters face something like 20+ hour round trips for home games

Juve are traditionally poorly supported in mickey mouse cup competitions anyway, especially when they are already unlikely to qualify out of the poxy group stage.

A bit like Man Utd then but substitute 10 for 20.

Thought this was a Citeh thread.

Anyway, info on Juve support from Wiki is a fair summary of why they have such poor gates for games like last night:

"Demand for Juventus tickets in occasional home games held away from Turin is high; suggesting that Juventus have stronger support in other parts of the country. Juve is widely and especially popular throughout mainland Southern Italy, Sicily and Malta, leading the team to have one of the largest followings in its away matches, more than in Turin itself."

Its quicker to get to Turin from London than it is for most Juve fans in Sicily etc

Slightly misleading in that there presumably aren't many home games away from Turin, so the novelty factor ensures higher demand. Week in week out would they get the same support? I doubt it.

It's proven. United rule in Guildford, Malaysia and Henley. City rule Manchester.

A very good friend of mine from Altrincham, and lifelong Utd fan, freely admits that blue is the predominant colour in Manchester

Yeah it is misleading, but they sold out 60,000 in Bari (600 miles away) for a game on neutrel turf when Catania had their ground closed after riots.

They just have a very unique fan base, which dates back to Fiat, the clubs backers, providing huge amounts of employment for the poor working classes based in the South of Italy. This support spread throughout most of the country, with most of their fans out of reach for home games.

Indeed. I don't really see why people get such a chip on their shoulder about people supporting their local side anyway really.

Most people don't go to games week in week out, and with the amount of football on television now it's possible to watch your team play pretty regularly without going to the games.

In my experience it's slightly bittered fans of lower league clubs who are the worst at this. Just because you travel 100 miles to watch Stockport every week, doesn't mean the rest of us have to mate!

Italian's in Turin support Torino. Immigrants living in Turin support Juventus (hence all the international flags at their home games)

It's a cultural thing.
