What type of player were/are you?

by Victor Meldrew » 24 Dec 2010 11:33

For the older posters I always thought of myself as a kind of Jim Baxter (Scottish legend).
As a midfielder other similarities were Hoddle or a taller version of Xavi.
What about the rest of you?

An Ivar Ingimarsson type player, though obviously not as good.
Coincidentally my son is the same type, although he never saw me play.

As a child I idolised 'Chopper' Harris. His tough tackling no nonsense style. There's no comparison in the game as it was in the 70's to the game we watch today.

Gary Lineker. Give me the ball, and it was in the back of the net. Although, as I am always reminded by those I used to play with, I had a habit of 'straying offside' on numerous occassions (i.e. every single match).

You weren't around in the 70s Jay

I would liken myself to Paul Brooker, largely anonymous, rarely outpacing anyone but once in a while I'll pop up with the kind of assist like he did for Dean Morgan away at Cardiff in the last minute a few years ago.

I'm sure my contemporaries from FFF will back me up :P

I was like an older Bas Savage, but without the pace, first touch or silky skills.

Alan Hansen

Loved to burst out of defence with the ball and always making up for the mistakes of other idiots at the back. can't say my medal haul reflects his though.

As a youngster, a striker very much in the Robbie Fowler mode, could score for fun. As I got older, I evolved into a Stuart Pearce style scything left back but as I approach my middle age, Neville Southall is more my style if only for my wasteline, if not my goalkeeping ability,
