I thought Boxing Day fixtures were seeded...

...to try and minimise travel distance due to lack of trains and the possibility of winter weather disruption?

But today we have Reading v Bristol and QPR v Swansea.

Surely Reading v QPR and Bristol v Swansea would have made far more sense.

Just realised that's a direct swap of last Boxing Day when we hosted Swansea and QPR played Bristol City...

It's an easy journey in both instances though. Year before last was Cardiff at home for us.

Before the fixtures are put in, clubs and the Police can also specify criteria for games on certain days - I bet either Avon or South Wales Police specified no local derbies (and that includes Bristol or the Welsh Clubs meeting) - or even that they couldn't Police a Bristol game at home today.

Good point SV, I know the Police (and BTP with regards to train travel clashes) have an input so the cost of policing a derby (with high tensions) could be a deciding factor.

Fwiw, Bristol Rovers were due to play at home to Walsall today.

That may support it - almost certainly that match would be police-free, whereas a Bristol City home match probably wouldn't have been.
