Nope, they've been recalled two games early. Makes it look all the more petty to me.

roadrunner It's being reported that Mickey Adams is set for the Sheffield United hotseat.

This is a major cock-up by the Blades imho; Adams is a serial failure who will get Shef Utd playing a long ball style sooner rather than later. My BHA supporting ex colleagues HATED him down at the Withdean; they used to say that it wasn't the losing that hurt, it was the losing with no style!

Agreed, and he's been told his job is a three stage process; keep the club in the Championship, get the club into the Premier League, and achieve it largely through their youth academy. That's an awful lot to ask of Mickey Adams, and on an initial 30 month contract.

I didn't think it was possible to recall players on season-long loans.

Mind you, at one time players had to be under a certain age (I think it was 24?) in order to go on season-long loans, but that rule seems to have gone out the window (witness Harper's initial move to Sheff Utd last year being given as a 'season-long loan').

Too add to Preston's woes, Tony Pulis has now recalled Michael Tonge and Danny Pugh.

Alex Ferguson's close friend Tony Pulis, manager of Stoke, has rubbed salt into the wound by recalling loan players Michael Tonge and Danny Pugh from Deepdale.

Thats truly pathetic for Pulis to have done that. Is there some kind of bloody patronage going on in football these days?

Bit harsh on the players as well, as they are obviously not needed/wanted at their 'home' clubs.

I can see them being moved on in Jan anyway but it is very petty - that's the problem with the loan market though, there is only so much control the loaning club has.

Yep, absolutely. Got a couple of clubs up from League 2 (Fulham and Brighton), was doing a decent job at Port vale in the league that can be considered his home. Got Leicester up after they somehow saved themselves from bankruptcy playing God-awful football and then took them back down again.

To be fair, Kevin Blackwell wasn't exactly reknowned for playing carpet football though was he? I will always remember kick-off routine which consisted of the ritual two-man kick off before knocking it all the way back to the goalkeeper to launch it long. So then Blades, what are your tactics going t be today then?

roadrunner Agreed, and he's been told his job is a three stage process; keep the club in the Championship, get the club into the Premier League, and achieve it largely through their youth academy. That's an awful lot to ask of Mickey Adams, and on an initial 30 month contract.

That is ludicrous if in any way true. It's not a secret that they've made heavy financial losses during the last financial year. You cannot expect a team made up in part by first and second year academy prospects to be challenging for promotion. Either way, my prediction is that it won't matter anyway, he'll be sacked by the end of the season.

Big changes at Sheff Utd, they are skint, absolutely wasted all the parachute payments + Tevez money and have a serious rebuilding job on there hands. Adams was a cheap but easy option giving his record on working with limited resources.
