Hull have reportedly doubled their £600k bid for Austin. You'd hope Madejski would support the manager with a similar bid if we were interested.

If we got Austin I would be very optimistic for the playoffs

I'd be optimistic for even higher than that.

So what we saying then? Optimistic for mid table when we don't get him?

Haven't Hull already got Fryatt and McLean?

Agreed. However, I feel we'll offer a permanent deal to Leigetwood and that will be it. I can hear it now, one of "the right players weren't available" or "we've got a strong squad that I'm happy with" and hope we can finish top six with a mid-table squad.

Always thought we may be just outside playoffs or scrape into them - with Austin reckon we could get 3/4

That's exactly what will happen, transfer windows are about as exciting as a HB pencil at Reading lately.

If that's true, did Hull actually have any strikers in the summer/start of the season..?

He looked good, but would only get a place on our bench. I'd love to see us buy him - he is certainly one for the future - but he is not going to affect our promotion chances.

I am sure that will have already priced us out of this particular market. We're probably looking at the likes of Erik Groeleken, Denis Lota and Lubomir Blaha.

He handled for the first goal, I'm fairly sure.

Anyway, Swindon owes us for taking Simon Cox off us so cheaply, they should do us a favour and lower their demands. The swindling bastards.

TBF, the kind of money being quoted is madness for a guy who hasn't blown League 1 away....

30 goals in 50 games isn't bad :| . If that is failing to blow the division away then that makes Shane Long look like the big bad Wolf trying to blow down the third little pig's brick cottage.....

^ Shane doesn't have a solid record of success at lower levels.

I never said it was bad. And I would love to see him come here, but at 1.5m it would be a MASSIVE gamble.

We signed Lita for £1m from L1 Bristol City, Austin has done more in L1 that Lita did, therefore £1.5m is worth the "gamble" as you put it.
