Respect FC

Please note that Kingsley Lion appears in the video on the above web page.

I expect a few on here have an interest in junior and youth football and grassroots non-league. This latest initiative from the The FA may be a bit corny but it is early days for this refresh of the Respect Programme and anyone with respect for the national game will know that touchline abuse is such a despicable part of football. Unfortunately it's like drink driving in that it will take years of education and pressure before attitudes will change.

Locally the East Berks Youth Football League which plays on Saturday mornings around Bracknell/Reading won the national FA Respect and Fair Play Award last season for their initiatives for dealing with inappropriate behaviour and many here may have kids playing in that league or may even be managers or coaches themselves.

Have you seen an improvement in on and off the pitch behaviour standards in junior/youth/non-league since the Respect Programme has been running for the last 3 seasons?

I've got to say the environment on a Saturday morning at Charlton Rovers where I train some under 9's is superb...but when they step up to the League next season and it gets more competitive then it may well all change.

The Cheltenham Youth League is a FA Charter Standard League and a Respect League so it is doing the right things and should be OK.

Has your club promoted the Respect Programme?

Respect in football? Don't make me laugh. Every week the pros con the punters by diving and cheating all over the place. Respect needs to be shown to supporters as well as officials.

You're almost right, the professional players are cheating the game by abusing the officials which is in turn cheating the supporters. Why do we stand for it?

Football culture needs to change, the kids grow into adult football and become parents themselves.
