Victor Meldrew Anybody watching Mooney last night playing for Colchester will have seen why we don't want him.
Was it £250,000 that we gambled on him or was that for Bennett?
My how times have changed when we have been looking at spending £300,000 on a proven striker.

Didn't see it, Vic, but tell us more (in sensible terms, would be grateful)

roadrunner McDermott pleased with Jacob loan
Posted on: Thu 20 Jan 2011

Young Jacob Walcott has joined Dutch team Telstar on loan until the end of the season.

The 18-year-old could make his debut for his new club on Friday evening as they take on FC Eindhoven in the Dutch second tier.

Walcott has come through our Academy ranks, and has now been given the opportunity to play overseas and further his career thanks to Brian McDermott's friendship with their manager Jan Poortvliet, who is a very well respected coach and also a key player in the Dutch 'total football' national team of the 1970s Johan Cruyff era.

McDermott told readingfc.co.uk, "This is a very good tie-up for us. Myself and Nick [Hammond] know Jan very well, he is a good friend of mine and stayed with me in my home a couple of years ago.

"He is a terrific coach, played in the 1978 World Cup final, won the UEFA Cup plus the Dutch league a number of times.

"I've got a lot of admiration for Jacob to go over there, he will play games and learn a hell of a lot, it will certainly benefit his career and it's a very positive move for him."

Sounds like a good loan for the boy. If he's half as good as his cousin then we have another great prospect on our hands here, and a wide man too which might be handy in the near future if we do lose Kebe and/or McAnuff. I'll monitor this move with interest.

I've got a couple of contacts at Telstar and will try to update you all on his progress. In principle it could be a good move for both Jacob and Telstar. As it stands, Telstar are struggling at the bottom end of the league with relagation being a real concern.

Telstar have a shabby little ground but a fantastic scoreboard. Well, when I say scoreboard, I mean a pole with 5 buckets attached to each side which are hoisted as and when the goals roll in :D

Yep....4 1 to Telstar......although I can't recall the last time they've scored 4. They've only managed to get 1 point from the last 6 games.

Physically he still looks slight and on a number of occasions was easily brushed aside.
He missed one sitter and I noticed on one occasion he didn't anticipate a cross which could have led to a goal.
From what I have seen for both Charlton and now Colchester he just doesn't seem to have a presence and I can see why none of our last 3 managers think he would add to our front line.
In other games he has scored goals but I kinda think they may be chances that are on a plate .

Went to Swindon v Exeter with some ECFC mates today. Ben Hamer started the game and kept a clean sheet. He made a couple of good saves to keep Swindon at bay, however he did show hesitation several times in coming for the ball and didnt seem to communicate ably with his defenders.

Reading Legend Jamie Cureton and former player Scott Goulbourne also took part in the match.

Jacob made his debut over the weekend for Telstar in their 1.0 victory over Volendam. He lined up wide right of midfield and by all accounts played well. Good first touch, very quick and an eye for goal. For a small guy he seems very strong on the ball and was unlucky on a couple of occasions not to get on the scoresheet.

Late in the game he was brought down just outside the area which led to the sending off of the Volendam centre half. Have I already mentioned how fast he is.

Certainly something special here. Needs to work a little at his decision making.

OS just confirmed Mills to Telstar subject to clearance.

Bignall to Brentford

Hector to Dundalk

Interesting that we are sending our young players off to far flung places now. Not sure what we read into this but it sounds like we think they have a good chance of making it.
