conspiracy theory (sorry if posted elsewhere)

last week Andy Gray said he was launching legal proceedings against the NoTW (prop.R Murdoch) for phone hacking. Three days later Sky Sports (prop. you get the picture) leak the off-air recording and suspend him.

EPR I don't think the opposite gender should officiate over a single sex sport full stop, and it's got nothing to do with capability or sexism, but pure human biology.

Every football supporter knows that making it clear to the ref that he has cocked up DOES influence his decision later in the game; and the players know this too - and will give the referees assistant a word of their mind if they think they've called an offside wrongly.

But put a woman on the line, and all of a sudden the player starts thinking with their dick and won't be inclined to give the official such a hard time.

Especially if they're hot.

I wouldnt worry about her being hot..

Victor Meldrew My take on it is "what creep decided that this needed airing?"

I told you already....definitely Jamie Redknapp! He's had his eye on Keys' job for ages! He always takes over the in-studio interviewing of other guests...

Disagree totally.

Refereeing is all about ability and fitness. Providing a female match official match the criteria and testing there is absolutely no reason why they cant referee mens football matches. Anyone who believes different probably falls in the sexist pig category.

The criteria and testing isn't up to scratch at the moment - indeed there are many male officials who aren't good enough and refereeing as a whole needs an overhaul.

the overhaul it needs is for people to stop slagging off refs making it look like a distinctly unpleasant thing to do. there's not enough refs around and smart-arse attitudes like this don't help one bit

Indeed Waxy. We're never going to get humans to be 100% correct or consistent in the way they interpret and react to situations within a game played at such a pace.

We just have to accept that sometimes they going to get it wrong. It's amazing how often they get it right to be honest, and they get little credit from the players, managers and pundits when they do get it right. That's especially so when you see and hear those involved get on their back so much before only for them (the officials) to be proven right.

I'd love to see a few more refs come out and explain the rationale over their decisions, even if it's just to put their hands up and say they didn't see something or they plain got it wrong.

I'd love it even more for the media to push those critical managers to admit the refs got it right and highlight how often that's the case. That might just make the managers and public stop and think before slagging them off so much.

Agreed, but I didn't think they were allowed to.

Well idiots they most certainly are. Horrible comments which however go on all the time in the game tbh.

As said before - would have no problems if this got rid of Richard 'Hairy hands' Keys. Gray isn't bad but let's see what happens.

Beware what you say on any medium seems to be the key bit of advice here.

as far as im concerned its pretty much the same as big rons "lazy N*gg*r" comments
yes- its his view, and that view was expressed in "private" but made public
at that point sky had no choice but to get shot.i think theyll not go that far this time, but only because sexism isnt considered as "bad" as racism. i have no idea why.

in my view these are horrible, and bitter comments MADE WITHOUT A SHRED OF HUMOUR, AND NO "BANTER" WHATSOever

but in my view shes made them look like mugs.
yes richard there was a big decision in the game, one that almost everyone thought was wrong. but turned out to be utterly right, the total opposite of what you said would happen.

& massive LOL at the way the clip ends- with him berating karen brady for saying football is rife with sexism, and signing off with "do me a favour love"
the very definition of irony.

oh- and not only was she as good as most male linos at the mad stad ive seen this season, she was better.

Big round of applause for Brendy.

Week in, week out I have to watch little herbert linos running up and down and failing to make decisions. Is this because they are men? No, it's because they are herberts. Not saying a woman can't be a complete herbert, but you can't say that they make a mistake 'because they are a woman' and frankly, any broadcaster with more than 5 minutes of experience who has a conversation like this in others hearing is an idiot.

...before the game had started

King Kenny's reaction hasn't been too good for them either, i'd imagine in private he's furious at having his name taken in vain like that

Right on Brendy.

It's inevitable that we'll get a whole host of troglodyte moans about the "PC brigade" when people get banged to rights for this - but the nub of the matter for me is that they've just unwittingly declared themselves incompetent for the job. Female officials are, and will continue to be a fixture in the game. If you've declared your prejudice against them based on their gender, I no longer have any interest in what you have to say about their performance. Which is, afterall, an increasingly big part of what Keys and Gray consider to be their jobs (god forbid they forget about contentious decisions for 5 minutes and do some analysis about the football).

Never realised King Kenny had a sense of humour before today

Obviously I’ve had to rely on the 24hour rolling coverage on 5live for all my considered information needs on this one but is it true that the original tape was leaked to Sky News?

If we do want to do the conspiracy angle it’s also a convenient way for Sky News to show how very independent from the rest of the Murdoch Empire prior to the News International/BSkyB decision…..

I thought she was very poor when she linod at the madstad recently. I make that comment not because she's female but because I believe she was poor. Mind you, I've seen worse (e.g. Saturday's wasn't great either) but IMO she was definitely in the bottom quartile on that day.

Agree with the comment that it's amazing that officials get so much right. However, it's amazing that they get some really obvious/easy ones wrong. Ones that no one else in the ground has seen - including BOTH sets of supporters. There's an example of this every half dozen games or so. Obviously the best example of all was the non-goal against Watford.
