Sacked but put on gardening leave. How odd.

It's not like he would be about to take a job with a competitor surely?

Cue short-term £2m contract for Big Sam, doubled if they stay up... (well, the game is mad enough isn't it?)

A fairly ridiculous sacking. See you next season then, West Brom.

Pointless sacking. That's them down now hopefully.

tbf to them (west brom) they have only had 4 managers in 11 years.....

Its a odd set up there though, as they dont have a manager.....just a 1st team head coach, so all the player dealings etc are done by someone else.

In order of most recent dated back 11 years:

Roberto Di Matteo, Tony Mowbray, Criag Shakespeare (stand in, 1 game 1 win), Nigel Pearson, Bryan Robson, Frank Burrows, Gary Megson, Cyrille Regis & Allan Evans - 2000.

Unless (like Pards at So'ton did) he has been spreading his seed amongst players and staffs wives....

....then that, is the most pathetic knee-jerk sacking by a club (who should know better), of one of the best up-and-coming managers in the Prem.

Boing boing

Snowballesque spin on that there RR.

It shows how things are when 4 managers in 11 years is seen as quite a stable record!

It's pretty odd to be able to sack someone and keep them on gardening leave. I suspect that there's a bit more to it.

Perhaps it's cheaper to sack him at the end of a season due to his terms and pay him for the duration, than sack him now and pay higher compo.

How it can be cheaper to pay two managers is a stretch though.

Don't know tbh.

*tedious joke about spending time in the garden and Brown getting a suntan*

RZR's explanation may well be right.

New West Brom boss is.....Roy Hodgson.

Bit of a coup for the Baggies, that.

Well, perhaps they saw what he did for an at-the-time-doomed Fulham when he first went there. Can't remember who got relegated after they pulled off their great escape....

{total speculation}

Hodgson on short term contract, probably on a lower wage with a carrot at the end if they stay up. Di Matteo could be on a lower wage as part of his gardening leave so both managers make up the sum of the full Di Matteo wage. Then if West Brom stay up there is the funding to settle both wage negotiations, compensation.
