Jerry St Clair Love the irony of this.

Spurs fans are still bitter that Woolwich Arsenal moved onto their patch in the 1920s. Now they're muscling in on Leyton Orient.

Scum. Sub-human scum.

The vast majority of Spurs fans don't want to move - or didn't when they were surveyed a few weeks ago. I think many have changed their opinions recently because they don't want West Ham to get it - real dog in the manger attitude.

Won't be long before the Hockey Stadium is hosting higher-level football than the Olympic Stadium. :P

Olympic Legacy board are expected to ratify the West Ham recommendation on Friday, then it's just Boris and Westminster's sign-off.

The move actually is opposed to the PL's own rulebook on the moving of clubs away from their traditional locations.

As such, I expect the rulebook to be hastily changed.

Are West Ham keeping the running track then? I know they proposed to do so but I also read that they wanted a removable row of seats so they can bring the fans closer to the pitch. I think I also read that that won't be possible.

I still find the idea of West Ham playing in a 60,000 stadium a joke. They can't justify that, surely. Tottenham I can understand, but Upton Park is more than suitable for West Ham.

Any football stadium with an athletics track around it will be horrible. Hate the idea!

Retrackable seats.....why couldn't they design it so seats can go over the running track

I was wondering about this. I don't know the exact wording of the rule. I suppose it's easy when a club is moving to a different town (or not if that town is Mitlon Keynes!) but isn't there a grey area when it comes to clubs in London? After all there's precedent in Millwall moving from Millwall to Bermondsey and Arsenal moved from Woolwich to Islington.

And what about Reading moving from West Reading to Smallmead? That's a distance of about 3 miles which is about the same as a move from Upton Park to Stratford.

Surely this issue has cropped up time and again over the last 15 or so years as clubs move from their original 'town centre' homes to out-of-town stadia. Unclear of the legal standing against West Ham's move if they were to cite Reading and Coventry's moves, for example.

I think the difference is that with the two examples you mentioned, both new grounds were in the same town as the olds ones, so no issue to answer.

With West Ham, Stratford is clearly a different place but yet only 3 miles or so from the Boleyn. Tricky one...

Don't know why West Ham are so keen to move either. Upton Park has seats available for most fixtures and, especially if they get relegated or remain a contender for relegation next few seasons- future move to Olympic Stadium would seem a bit of a white elephant.

Someone on R5 this morning said that the new stadium was actually closer to West Ham than Upton Park is.

No idea if that is correct though as I can't be f***ed to look at a map

Exactly. I don't like the club anyway, but to see them in a half empty stadium where you all sit a million miles away from the pitch and all atmosphere is lost is laughable. I'd be interested to know what their supporters think about this. I'd be pretty cheesed off.

It is. Upton Park is almost in East Ham, on the other side of Plaistow from West Ham itself.

Bolton moved to Horwich, in the borough of Wigan. So it's not like Premier League clubs haven't done this before, even since Richard Keys invented football.

If it West Ham then the new stadium will only be 1 mile closer to Orient. Yes it's a bigger stadium but I'm not sure there are that many people in that part of London who go to Orient because they can't get in to Upton Park.

But what about future generations? How many kids are going to choose Orient over the relative glamour of the Premier League, assuming West Ham stay there?
