Prior to the 4 games v Cardiff, QPR, Norwich and Sheff Utd, how many points were people actually expecting us to get?

A loss at Cardiff looked most likely, but it just felt like a loss conceding so late.

Defeat to QPR was disappointing, but not exactly a shock.

Letting in a late goal v Norwich was hugely annoying, but they've done that about 8 times this season. Who was predicting a win there?

Tonight's game was disappointing, but in isolation a point wouldn't be regarded as the disaster it's being portrayed as.

But hey, it's knee-jerk time, and the usual jerks are revelling in it.

Never nice to lose but it always hurts more when its a late goal, than say, one scored in the 65th minute

Definitely agree with this, ashame we keep conceding late on, I hope it stops soon and we regain our usual 'fightback' mentality.

Horsham Royal I'm a great believer in the law of averages, specially in football.
We got a few breaks like late goals in the unbeaten 13 match run (or whatever it was), and now the breaks are going against us.
We were either sh1t before (and lucky) and sh1t now and (unlucky) or
we were average before (and lucky) and average now (and unlucky) or
we were good before (and lucky) and good now (and unlucky).
The team has not changed - just the luck has changed.

Whilst I agree we are not getting much luck right now (although others don't acknowledge this - see Perspective Thread) I must take issue with the "luck evening out" concept. I am afraid I am going to quote Snowball at you as he put this rather well and on this I agree totally

I doubt very much if God has it in for any particular club, but OF COURSE one club
can fall foul of the odds. Ask any statistician. There is no law of averages. There is
no "law" that says because you concede four unlucky/dodgy penalties you will get
awarded four later in the season. Things "evening out" is BUNKUM, just like if there
have just been ten consecutive reds on a "straight" roulette wheel. It is still 50/50
that it will be red or black next spin.

A lot of very good managers have said you need luck to win.

It goes without saying that the better your players and manager the less you need luck to be at least 50-50, but that doesn't mean that better sides lose games. I related an anecdote where Neport County players told me they were getting every bit of luck which was why they were top of the league.

A bad referee decision, an onside goal ruled offside, advantage not played when it should be, a crazy deflection..

I remember Carlisle v WBA in the semi-final of the League Cup

Carlisle won the first leg 1-0 and edged the first half of the return at The Hawthorns ( 0-0 )

Second half we hit the one post, ball went all the way along the
goal-line hit the other post and came out. Would have been 2-0.

The Geoff Astle (RIP) started to play and we lost 4-1

or how about Man City's goal v United last weekend. The shot is going to hit the corner flag but strikes a City player on the butt and is deflected in. Luck happens and you DO get sides ruing the rub of the green
