Fastest red card ever?

by Red » 16 Feb 2011 09:38

You've trained all week...and then this happens.

Has this ever happened before?

Maybe the fastest from the start of the match, but boozing, gambling, fighting Keith Gillespie's zero seconds of play after coming on as a sub is unlikely to be bettered.

Clumsy, but he's right pissed off at his defender.

Fastest goalkeeper to be sent off for sure, but others have been quicker.

This for starters....

Chippenham Town striker David Pratt, 21, was sent off just THREE SECONDS after the kick-off.

He got his marching orders for lunging at an opposing player straight during a match against non-league rivals Bashley, in Hampshire.

Referee Justin Amey showed Mr Pratt a straight red for the dangerous tackle on Chris Knowles.

The 22-year old was not hurt and went on to help his side win the British Gas Southern Premier League game 2-1.

Gillespie at the mad stad was quite special.

Not from the start of play as he came on as a sub when the ball went out for a throw in

He had been sent off before the throw in was taken

There, you go - it wouldn't have been hard to include that in your original reply. (Even if it is a game from a nonsense league.)

Indeed - as Baines mentioned earlier in the thread.

I've since his 'official' time-on-pitch quoted variously as 0 seconds and around 10 seconds though. As play was never restarted before he was sent off it's got to be 0 seconds surely?

It's actually a little a duration as possible: 0 seconds. A throw in was awarded, Sheffield made the substitution, Gillespie trotted onto the field, had a contretemps with Hunt and was promptly told to trot off again all before the throw in was retaken.

IIRC Souness was sent off quickly when playing for Rangers.

Keith Gillespie was actually the second player to get sent off after '0 seconds' - Walter Boyd managed the same feat for Swansea, also for attacking someone having come on as sub, and before play resumed.

Didn't Vinny Jones hold the record of about 5 seconds?
