I wonder if this is another reason why UEFA and FIFA seemingly have it in for English football?

Yet another demonstration of the rank hypocrisy and bullsh!t FIFA and UEFA are capable of .

"Football is the people's game. Therefore, we want to use our tournaments to promote football across the world to all people (but only if these people pay through the nose just to watch it on TV)."

It's a good thing for us, but FIFA and UEFA get less money if it's not a free-market bid so they are kicking up a fuss.

No idea, but as the practise has been upheld by the ECJ as perfectly acceptable then it opens it up for other EU countries to do so if they wanted

This is a judgement from the European Court of first instance [now the EGC] - the ECJ will be the next [and final] step in this dispute.
