biscuitman Quite confused to see that Leeds isn't on that list. They brough 7k to Barnsley on a Tuesday night, 6k to Cov and about 40,000 to Reading.

I was going to put them on to be honest. They are one of those clubs supported/hated up and down the country agreed. They get full houses on the road all the time so you could definitely make a case.

Leeds and Barnsley are less than 20 miles apart - not a great example

Handy. Just need another 15 of 'em to fail a test in the next 7 days or so.

I think it's City fans who don't know the origins to that song seeins it's only sung against United infront of a full house.

And adding LOLeeds to that list, their home attendances halved.

nationwide, it's probably only United and Liverpool.

Arsenal have little support north of Oxford, ditto Chelsea, Spurs. Newcastle have little support (relatively, of course) outside the North east.

Man United could fill any stadium in England with their supporters from that town. Probably Liverpool too.

Leeds maybe number three?

No way. Muslim boy isn't he? Doesn't even drink.

My bet is something really boring like using the wrong medication.

He says he took a slimming pill of his wife's. Wenger just confirmed that Touré always struggled with his weight while at Arsenal. Some 'expert' on the radio just said that if it is the slimming pill then it will be the same substance that the Scottish footballer recently got a 4 week ban for

So why did Liverpool have 5k under capacity the other week at Anfield against Villa then - if they're that big?! In fact they haven't really sold out all season and only 4 games have seen their attendances near sell out.

Liverpool = higher average attendance than Chelsea in 49 of the last 50 years. FACT.

This maybe true but they have a higher capacity. We fill our ground by at least 97%, Liverpool only 94% - Liverpools support has seen another drop percentage wise this season.

Anyway, this is a Man City thread, not another anti-Chelsea one.

Anyone would think you're still upset about that 1-0 defeat.

You'll have to be more specific, we've had literally hundreds of 1-0 defeats and I can't think of any that stand out. Except for that terrible couple against Norwich in '98 or '04.

3.5k difference? Fairly negligible if you ask me. Can you explain the following?

Year Div Av. Attendance
1973 1 29.722
1974 1 25.983
1975 1 27.396
1976 2 18.957
1977 2 30.633
1978 1 28.734
1979 1 24.782
1980 2 23.266
1981 2 18.897
1982 2 13.132
1983 2 12.672

1984 2 21.12
1985 1 23.065
1986 1 21.985
1987 1 17.694
1988 1 20.118
1989 2 15.957
1990 1 21.783
1991 1 20.906
1992 1 18.78
1993 1 18.754
1994 1 19.211

1995 1 21.025
1996 1 25.598
1997 1 27.617

Can you explain why such a massive club like Chelsea were getting sub 20k crowds as recently as 1994? (A year in which they made the FA Cup Final...). For such a big club that your purport Chelsea to be, some of those years are no better than Reading are now :|

Chelsea fans can't have it both ways - one can't claim to be one of the biggest clubs but also claiming to support Chelsea when they were shit.

I am not saying Chelsea are a massive club. You've all twisted that. Good fishing though.

The thread was about Man City saying they're a massive club yet get VERY low crowds for FA Cup games. Someone then piped up and mentioned Liverpool are a massive club. I was merely stating they're not actually that big - they had 5k under capacity for a recent home game with Villa. Arsenal get crowds of 60k, United 75k, Liverpool get crowds of about 43k and us around 41k. Whether you like it or not our support has grown and we are pretty much on a par with Liverpool now. Sorry to piss on your fire, but facts are facts. Some clubs stay still, some progress.

It must really make you happy to have support on a par with Liverpool given the unprecedented recent success you've had compared to the rest of your history, when comparing to a Liverpool that is doing about as bad as it has done in decades.

Shit Liverpool > support than Chelsea flush with recent success. Something to really crow about.
