Free coach travel to Man City

by riverroyal » 04 Mar 2011 18:47

Anyone know if you have to be a member of Star to travel on the free coaches?

Anyone know what time they will depart?

Anyone know if you will be up there in time for a beer?

Good gesture by the club

You don't need to be a member of star.
Times have yet to be confirmed.

As not all of the 2800 ticket holders will want the coach travel, will it be carried over if more tickets are released?

Maybe people on here who get tickets but don't need the coach tickets could pass them on to others?

As I understand it, there'll be 3 STAR coaches for STAR members (i.e. those who went to Everton).

The other coaches will be run by the club - so no-one has to join STAR to get the travel.

On STAR you can't drink alcohol, can you on these coaches?

Will you be allocated a coach when you buy your ticket, or will it be unreserved until you arrive to depart?

No, it's not STAR or the club's decision. It's the Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol Act) 1985 - no alcohol can be carried on any vehicle seating more than 7 (I think) which is taking people to to a football match.

RFC might have got this wrong..

They state "free travel for ALL of our supporters" on the o/s, and on Facebook have confirmed that the 2800 is only an initial allocation.

Demand will far exceed 2800 so I assume we will be taking more tickets, and do RFC really mean they will add coaches for the second batch of tickets?

Very confused as it sounds too good to be true, but that is what they have promised...

They really should actually correct that, because they are currently offering anybody who is able to buy a ticket in the initial allocation free travel to the game - regardless of where they live, which is obviously NOT what they mean!

Actually it's better than that, as long as you are a supporter, even if you have a home end ticket, they'll give you a lift from wherever you are

What if it was on a vehicle seating more than 7 that happens to be stopping near a football ground?

This an extract from the Act. Even if it is a private hire minibus( PSV) and is going to a designated sporting event, you are liable to prosectution if stopped and caught with alcohol on board. A friend ( non drinking) drove for a group to the Chelsea game, one of them was daft enough to get off the minibus with an empty can, the friend was taken aside by the local constabulary, his name was taken and he was give a warning about the law and alcohol in regard to going to the football. so, he got an ear bashing, but in the worst case scenario, he could have been prosecuted and so could the owner of the mini bus.
PSV operators are reminded of the terms of Section 1 (1) of the Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol) Act 1985, as amended by the Public Order Act 1986, which prohibits the carriage of alcohol on a PSV that is being used for the principal purpose of carrying passengers for the whole or part of a journey to or from a designated sporting event.

It is an offence for an operator of a PSV (or his servant or agent) knowingly to cause or permit the carriage of alcohol on journeys to which these Regulations apply..

I wouldnt even try to argue the 'knowingly' bit if you have a stash of Fosters under your seat, an angelic smile and a "well, I don't know how they got there" is not likely to work.

Sounds like just dropping everyone off round the corner would be a reasonable defence.

The "from" clause is a bit harsh TBH.
