United to sell Rooney

by roadrunner » 13 Mar 2011 13:02

Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson is to sell Wayne Rooney in the summer, according to the News of the World.

The paper claims that Rooney and Ferguson's relationship, already rocky following the striker's contract negotiations last autumn, has reached an all-time low in recent weeks - despite the fact that the 25-year-old has finally rediscovered his scoring touch.

The paper's source claims that, "relations between Rooney and Ferguson are so strained that it is affecting other players," adding that, "Sir Alex is not pleased with the way Rooney has been playing... Rooney has been moaning about the squad again but Sir Alex has told him he should look at himself before criticising others."

With United's other stars - particularly striker Javier Hernandez - spearheading the club's efforts in this campaign, the way is apparently clear for the Red Devils to cash in on a player that Ferguson has simply had enough of dealing with. Rooney is expected to fetch a fee to the tune of around £60-80 million.

They'll still get a stupid amount of money for him but it should certainly be a big chunk less than it would have been at the start of the season.

The new contract adds value, surely? I can't see why his value with have dropped. He's easily worth £40m, at least.

Frimmers I know some of your views are 'alternative', but if you don't think a host of clubs will be queueing up to sign Rooney, then you're kidding yourself. The only thing that will stop a bunfight is City offering stupid money and pushing the competition out.

City, Chelsea, Real, Barca would, imho, all be interested in signing Rooney.

Even the Milan clubs, probably a player plus deal tho. United have been tracking Benzema for however long, so a player cash deal from Real is a real possibility too.

United selling at a loss? Have a day off frimmers.

The same reason they wanted Henry, a different attacking option.

Put the goalposts down. You asked why Barca would want him, not what he might do in the future. I don't think the opinion that Rooney is 'past it' is particularly shared across the continent's top clubs.

What an odd thing to say. He left Arsenal at the height of his ability. Didn't go so well at Barca and now cooling down on big money in the US.

You're a bit :| today Frimmers.

Tell me, what do you value Rooney at if not £40m?
