cmonurz The same reason they wanted Henry, a different attacking option.

who? perhaps a good example though..past his best at arsenal when wenger sold him..and did diddly squat thereafter.

What an odd thing to say. He left Arsenal at the height of his ability. Didn't go so well at Barca and now cooling down on big money in the US.

You're a bit :| today Frimmers.

Tell me, what do you value Rooney at if not £40m?

at the hight of his ability? dream on.rooney would not fetch twenty million in todays transfer market as a united failure.

Royal Rother They'll still get a stupid amount of money for him but it should certainly be a big chunk less than it would have been at the start of the season.

if anyone pays 60-80 million for that over-rated gypsy they are off their rocker, 30 million is a fair price, we'll add the obligatory +10million because he's english and I think 40 million is what he'll go for

roadrunner United have been tracking Benzema for however long, so a player cash deal from Real is a real possibility too.

Have you seen Benzema play since he left Lyon???

On the European Leagues Thread Sandman Benzema has to be the worst striker in Madrid's history and I include Elvir Baljic in that

Tbf to Benzema he has picked up in the last fortnight as his confidence has grown but there is always the threat that he'll miss an easy chance.

Benzema isn't a traditional Madrid striker like for example Raul was and Higuain is. I mean that in the way that he doesn't play off the shoulder of the defender and at times looks lazy. The obvious comparison is Berbatov and I'm not sure United would be best served with two strikers like that.

No, but Ferguson wanted him before and may still want him. It's just an example if a club can't find £40m, they may offer a player United previously shown an interest in and then some cash. I don't expect AC or Inter could find £40m, so could be a similar offer if they too were interested in Rooney.

I'm hopeful United will offer us Rooney and £2m for Long.

Tottenham will sell Jermaine Defoe to Citeh - then bring in Rooney for £20M + Gareth Bale (plus an undisclosed amount into the Luxembourg account of a certain Mr Rarry Hedknapp - alledgedly!)

Harry Redknapp and his accountant would cream their pants if they thought they could bring Rooney to the Lane. He's better than all of your current strikers.

A couple of years ago he would have made a reasonable replacement for Shane Long but now I don't think McDermott would want just another squad player unless he wants cover for Manset and Williams

Pressed on whether Tottenham were realistic contenders for Rooney's signature, Redknapp said: ''It's not impossible.
''If he's going to stay in England, who knows? You've got to be interested when the very, very best players become available but it would be a big ask.
''I'm sure there'll be some big fish out there wanting to take Rooney, that's for sure.
''He's a fantastic player - he's having a bad spell, he's had a bad two or three months - but he's a great player.''

and? levy would never sanction a deal to take a united cast off.
