Does he have a point, should the game be at St James?

Don't know what the link is as can't view it at work but if it's about the FA Cup semis then this season is the prime example that "common sense" has been waiting for with regards to holding the FA Cup semis at Wembley.

Before Wembley was finished, a line up like this year's semi final line up would have probably been played at:

Bolton v Stoke - Old Trafford
Utd v Citeh - Elland Road or Villa Park

Other than for financial reasons for the FA (and I guess they will hide behind the "more fans can attend" angle) I can't see the sense in 3 sets of fans from the North West and 1 from the North Midlands having to go to Wembley.

It is purely and simply that the FA (Ken B8s, actually) made such a complete and utter oxf*rd of Wembley's finances that they have to use it on every possible occasion.

Easy for the Cockney Reds and Home-counties Reds to turn up at Wembley, so they will fill it.

Granted, and I knew this before the thread was started, however in previous years you could have justified holding at least one of the semi-finals at Wembley. This year is the first year where all 4 clubs come from north of Brum.

Yep, but the FA's financial crisis takes precedence over all other aspects they have signed a contract with WNSL that all FA Cup semi-finals for the next however many years will be at Wembley. They can't change it even if they wanted to.

The Marathon is on the Sunday; the Manc FA Semi is on the Saturday.

I would have thought a midday kick off would have been better.

And I agree with Soggy, those coaches from Stockport will take a lot longer than the trains from Piccadily.

The key word was "possible." UEFA have gazumped the FL and invoked a clause that says there are no games at the stadium for 6 days before the Champions League final, so the FL have been turfed out to Old Trafford.

The FL are none to pleased as they have a contract with WNSL guaranteeing them use of Wembley for all the play-off finals, but have decided against taking legal action against Wembley. But technically the FA wasn't in a legitimate position to bid for the CL final.

The FL are also very worried about how it's possible to have the play-off final just two days after the CL final - in terms of stadium preparations (signage, adverts, branding, TV setups, etc). It'll be a skin of the teeth job.
