PL Launches Respect Campaign

by Svlad Cjelli » 01 Apr 2011 11:44

Managers and players face a new crackdown on their behaviour towards referees from the start of next season.

The Premier League clubs have announced a new campaign targeting "unacceptable" behaviour towards officials following a number of high-profile incidents this season, culminating in Sir Alex Ferguson receiving a five-match touchline ban for his TV outburst at referee Martin Atkinson following Manchester United's defeat at Chelsea.

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore said: "We do need to concentrate on the player and manager relationship with the referee this time, as every one of us knows that there have been elements of unacceptable behaviour."

I really can't see why this is difficult to sort out. I'm not working class so didn't
play football at school, maybe i'm missing the point

Players question every decision an official makes (with unbelievable arrogance)

I find it difficult to watch football

All power struggles - who is bigger, the PL or Ferguson?

We may find out soon.

Is this like the respect campaign that already exists?

Oh no, a touchline ban. What a terrible punishment in this modern hi-tech communication age.

Nope, because the Fa's idea was to start at the bottom of the game and flow upwards. This is the opposite, - as should have happened in the first place, because a lot of the kids just copy what they see on MotD.

It's not a new phenomena this abuse of officials. It's been happening for decades. When will football take a leaf out of Rugby Union's book?

That's the idea - the jury is out on whether it'll actually happen!

Exactly that. This is basically what the FA should've got the PL to do when they kicked off the Respect campaign. Without the grass roots element was doomed to failure.

We can - players and mangers can't (or at least can't abuse them, crowd them, jostle them and call them cheats)

tbh, I think Sir Alex not doing interviews has really embarrassed them. the one thing that stirs the PL into action is when the TV companies get upset about something .....
