PFA player of the year award

by TBM » 18 Apr 2011 10:51

So Gareth Bale won......

26 games
7 goals
1 assist

What did he do that made him better than, say.....

Nani
28 games
9 goals
14 assists

No Fixed Abode

Can't believe Bale won it tbf. He was immense in the CL for a couple of games or so and ok in the league.

Ashley Cole got in the PFA team of the year though. 8)

because when Bale does something you think "skillz", when Nani does something you think "nasty spick homo"

not fair but neither's life

I agree with TBMers and Kes, Bale's performances in the Champions League clearly influenced the voting which is wrong in my opinion. He's had a few decent games in the Premiership and scored some good goals early in the season, but he has not been a consistantly high performer and is basically the best of a bad bunch.

There hasn't been any stand-out players this season really. Usually there are one or two who are streets ahead of everyone but the fact that Bale was given the award shows how mediocre everyone has been.

Bale to Man utd at some point over the Summer I would think.

Spurs will badly need to balance the books if they miss out on 4th and i can't see their uber collection of average, injured midfielders going for much.

Carlos Tevez - 19 goals
Leighton Baines - 11 assists (from left back)
Joe Hart - 14 clean sheets

Better than Bale IMHO

I'd go along with that. I'd even say that Ryan Giggs is more deserving than Bale too.

Bale wasn't even immense for a couple of CL games. His supposedly brilliant game was against Inter Milan. He had an excellent second half, but Inter were 4-0 up and on auto-pilot when he started playing well. He got two in the last couple of minutes which made it seem better than it was.

Not sure how Wilshere got in the PFA team.
A lot of potential yes but from what I have seen he hasn't done as much as the hype suggests.
According to Wenger he is an attacking midfielder and from that position you would expect at least 10 goals per season as per Gerrard,Lampard,Adam,Cahill etc-he may have scored plenty but I can only remember one.

Yep, just the one league goal. He's played well though, but probably not better than ever other midfielder. It's his age that's probably influenced the voting as much as the hype because this year has been his breakthrough year.

March according to the head of the PFA.

I don't think Bale did enough to win it either though.
