Captains question

by leicsRoyal » 03 May 2011 16:40

A friend of mine who seems to spend much time reading football stats from many years ago and then firing questions at me asked me this one;

Which player captained Reading 4 days after signing for them in 70's?

I could only really think it might be Paul Bennett, but that was wrong.

Anyone any idea's, can't let him get the better of me.

Bit of an update on this is that the player only signed on a months loan but captained the side 4 days after signing.

It still doesn't help me. :|

Unfortunately not.

I've tried every player I could think of, so most of the obvious ones are incorrect.

I find it remarkable that we would sign a player just on a months loan and make them captain for the next game! :|

A further hint that I was given was that it was in the mid seventies, so my guess of Bennett couldn't have been far off.

Did he remain with us or just stay for the month?

He signed on loan for us and was made captain 4 days later. At the end of the loan spell we didn't want to extend it and Oxf&rd signed him permanently. It was in the 76/77 season.

It's Brian Drysdale - although he was here more than a month.

No problems - he was made captain when Charlie Hurley was sacked, BTW.
