Does anyone know when we started keeping records of top scorers for the home nations and the republic of ireland?

Not at all, I was just surprised that rather than concentrate on "well done for notching 50 international goals" SSN created some fatuous stat about him being the first person from GB, NI and Eire to pass 50 goals, like that was something people had been tracking.

Fair enough. As far as I know, it has as much to do with Keane himself as anything else. About a year ago, he was asked what target he had set himself (if any) in international goals and he said that he wanted to surpass Bobby Charlton's 49. I suspect it stems from that, but I admit I also remember being a bit surprised at the emphasis he put on it.

SymonsO Playing for Ireland limits his list of reasonable achievements I guess. Wasn't ever going to win a major tournament or the likes!

Oi!
