Snowball Last Season wasn't quite the same

A lot of the top GOAL-SCORERS stayed

Top Goal Scorers 2009-10

Promoted/Sold

Carroll, Nolan, Lovenkrands Newcastle
Adam, Ormerod, Campbell Blackpool
Brunt, Dorrans, Bednar WBA
Adam Johnson Middlesbrough (to Man C)

Started 2010-11 Season in Championship

Gylfi Sigurdsson Reading 16

I think you might just have demonstrated why "started 2010-11 season in Championship" is not a particularly interesting statistic.

Gary Hooper just above him too.

When you look at the thread title, it implies (as this is the TEAM section) that it is Reading who are running out of strikers......who gives a flying F**k about everyone else in the Division!

This happens every year. Any striker that is young enough and who scores a few goals in the Championship immediately becomes a PL target. Clearly the reason is that the step up from League 1 or 2 to the PL is generally too large and so realistically PL clubs have to buy Championship players or shop abroad. It is hardly rocket science.

The good news is that there is a blank sheet of paper next season for strikes in the Championship and new talents will emerge. Let's hope Manset, Hunt and Church are amongst them!

Mackail-Smith Peterborough 27
Murray Brighton 22 - Now at Palace
Lambert Southampton 21
Wright-Phillips Charlton 21
Barnes Brighton 18

Fair to say that Mackail-Smith won't be at Peterborough next season but could well be elsewhere in the Championship. Also worth noting that promoted sides generally spring a surprise and do well in their first season.

i'll bet there are top scorers next season

I'll bet the majority of them play for the teams that get promoted

I'll bet the majority of the rest are "targets" for prem league and/or foreign clubs

Last Four. This year looks high

352 Total 17.6 Average 2010-11
311 Total 15.6 Average 2009-10
295 Total 14.8 Average 2008-09
303 Total 15.0 Average 2007-08

Well two of the top four did leave by the closing of the summer transfer window and the top scorer was never going to leave because he was out with a serious injury.
