Mr Angry
soggy biscuit McLeish is actually claiming constructive dismissal rather than just resigning which is why he/Villa believe there should be no compensation to Birmingham.

On the basis of what???

On the basis that the chairman sacked some of his back room team (by email, apparently) without consulting McLeish and thus made his position "untenable".

I can't believe Villa are desperate enough to appoint McLeish. Shocking appointment.

Jeez - football really needs to get its head out from up its @rse! Imagine being in your job, and a couple of people were made redundant because of a sudden loss of income; do you think resigning and trying to claim constructive dismissal for that reason will carry even a modicum of credibility?

Frankly, I'm genuinely shocked at Villa's behaviour; I always thought Deadly Doug was a to$$er, but that fundamentally they were a decent club and Lerner a decent Chairman. Then they treat O'Niell shabbily, Houlier was treated badly, as is McAllister, and then they try to poach the manager of their local rivals - despite the fact that he got Brum relegated this season! Its almost wilfully self-destructive by Lerner.

Yes, but do you not think that "constructive dismissal" is exactly what it was?

Brum would have known pretty much for certain that getting rid of his backroom staff would ensure McLeish resigned... they would probably have thought that enticing his resignation in that way would reduce the likelihood / amount of any compensation payment.

Skanky bastards.

I hope McLeish (a thoroughly decent bloke) wins.

Regardless of his record I can not understand why he would want to go to Villa or Villa would want him?

The Villa fans fukking hate Brum; he is going to have to do twice as well as another candidate just to keep them content.

There a loads of good managers out there, why fish so close to home? It's like nicking a bird of someone you know just because they're quite fit. Never worth the hassle.

And yes I know Redknapp did it to Pompey & Saints but Villa are a club with rightly or wrongly loftier ambitions, the two South coast clubs were just happy Redknapp wanted them!

I manage a team and I am specifically responsible for them. If someone fired any of them without discussing the situation with me that would absolutely be constructive dismissal.

I don't like McLeish but if these are the facts then he's right.

Can't wait for Villa to say no to McLeish and Birmingham have to pay up the remaider of his contract. Rather than receiving £5m they could end up £5m out of pocket.

Hughes will be Chelsea manager with Hiddink as Director of Football. Ipso Facto.

Heard yesterday that Villa are having to pay out £10M in the space of a few months to former managers to settle contracts.

Still, nothing like the £40M that Abramovich has spent so far paying up managers contracts that have been cut short

I totally disagree. The status of a football manager is not comparable to most jobs. Any actual, or perceived, undermining of the authority of a manager absolutely makes his position untenable. The manager has to be in total control.

If Carson Yeung (or whoever) did get rid of some of McLeish's team without consulting him, I think McLeish is correct in claiming constructive dismissal.

His constructive dismissal claim would have more foundation if the club hadn't gone out and recruited 3 new players upon his request since the sacking that has apparently led him to resign.
