Swansea have lost their minds

Swansea City have had a bid rejected for Middlesbrough's Leroy Lita, skysports.com understands.

The Swans are looking to bolster their forward options ahead of their maiden Premier League campaign and are taking a keen interest in Boro.

Former Swansea loanee Marvin Emnes remains a target for the club but they are also now looking at his team-mate Lita.

Ex-England Under-21 star Lita had his best season for a number of years last term with 12 league goals.

Boro boss Tony Mowbray is a confirmed fan, but with the Teesside club still looking to cut their wage bill, Lita could move if a suitable offer is made.

However, Swansea's opening salvo, believed to be less than £1million, is way below Boro's valuation of a player they signed on a free transfer in 2009.

Interestingly Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers has just returned to Britain following a charity climb of Mount Kilimanjaro - something he did with Boro chairman Steve Gibson.

Two things:

1) Transfer thread

2) Madness isn't indicated in the story you posted. Perhaps you could offer your thoughts as to why the Swans have lost their minds.

Bidding for an average Championship striker, who is no better than their current options, smacks of losing their minds to me

Could blossom in their system though. Might make him a bargain.

Have they actually signed Danny Graham yet? If not their options are Craig Beattie and Luke Moore. I'd have to say that Leroy would be an improvement if that is the case.

Along with Dobbie, Pintado, and Sinclair can play up there as well.

they got rid of Pintado on loan in January (aged 33) so i doubt they see him as a first teamer this season

Dobbie plays in the hole behind the forward too, and if they play Sinclair up upfront they lose their best left winger.

They definitely need a centre forward or two and I can see why they'd see Lita as a decent option to be fair. He was probably our best centre forward when we needed someone to play up their on their own in the Premier League. Create him chances and he'll do all right.

Still, not sure moving him closer to the bright lights of Bristol is a good idea though.

Didn't keep them up, but DJ Campbell proved a decent acquisition in the Premier League for Blackpool.

No reason Lita, who has a lot of the skill, couldn't thrive at Swansea, whose movement and passing at least plays to his strengths.

Would give Villa the top 2 English goalscorers last season though.

I can see Swansea getting desperate and signing someone like Becchio from Leeds.

Only have to look at his form for us in the premiership. 9 goals in 9 games or something wasn't it at one stage? Still think Lita is a very good striker who can thrive if conditions suit him. So worth a punt IMO especially for 1-2 million considering how expensive "top" strikers are these days.

December 2006 - January 2007: Lita's only decent spell in the prem. One of the most overrated players to ever don the blue and white hoops in my opinion. Has gone backwards since his move to Boro apart from developing an uncanny knack to score against RFC. Looks like the Swans are adopting a scattergun approach to coax players from the Championship...
