Metatarsel injuries

by Mr Angry » 21 Jun 2011 10:46

Do you remember both the 2002 and 2006 World Cups being affected by star players (Beckham & Rooney) getting broken metarsels before the tournaments? The anxious wait for the diagnosis, the detailed drawings of where the metatarsel was on Sky Sports News.........

And yet....when was the last time a player got a broken metatarsel? It seems to have vanished as quickly as it appeared....

The feeling was that boot design may have had something to do with it, and newer boots are better designed to protect the foot (whereas the trendy designs in the early/mid 2000's had the exact opposite effect).

Any thoughts??

I broke my fourth metatarsal last year. The sporting world was outraged yet my foot didn't appear on the front page of The Sun newspaper sadly.

Nothing to do with my boots either, just an absolute shocker of a challenge when I was clearling a high ball.

Perhaps footballers have manned up a bit and gone back to calling it a broken foot.

Mr Angry Any thoughts??

The football season had ended, the world cup hadn't started yet, the sports media were desperate to write about anything.

Is this the place to place out in the open that I suffered a broken metatarsal 18 months ago?

It is a broken foot, the metatarsal is a bone in the foot. Whats wrong with being specific?
