We also qualified well for the last tournament where we got out of our group before getting beaten by the now 3rd ranked country.

Results haven't been all that bad, but if you actually watch the performances it gives a whole different perspective on how good or bad we are.

One of my favourite threads on GF was a Floyd(?) one in the run up to WC 2006 when he turned the relative rankings of the sides England beat into league positions, said something mildly provocative and let it run for a good 20 pages.

There where 11 of us......what a laugh realy enjoyed the games met the whole squad who chatted with us for atleast an hour and gave us all a shirt, mind you Fielding was pissed we chanted he was a Royal as MaCarthy didnt get a game

The u20 World Cup squad was announced yesterday.

Not a lot of players you'd recognise in that one so we're obviously not looking to send a decent team for this one that FIFA see as probably their second best tournament after the World Cup proper.

The timing stinks as far as we're concerned so it's not surprising. Bit of a shame though.

U20's is a funny age in football terms though, all the really good players go straight to the u21s after the under 19's

Certainly over here they do yes. Not sure about the rest of the world but having this tournament in the same summer as the Euro U21s would suggest we're not alone, certainly in Europe.

FIFA take it more seriously though apparently. I think the South Americans might be a bit more focused on u20s than u21s, but that's a bit of a guess.

u17s beat the Argies on penalties to make it through to the quarter finals where they take on Germany who stuffed the USA 4-0.

That game was painful to watch, extremely difficult conditions due to the monsoon that was going on.

So the under 17's take on Germany tonight, think this could be the end of the boys world cup?

This German team look pretty handy.

Not seen the Germans play yet, but their results and reviews make them out to be the better team.

Just a mention for the England keeper (Pickford I think it is) who conceeded that daft one against Canada and then spilled the free kick for the Argies goal in the last round. He pulled of a fantastic save from one of the penalties to get us through and it seems a bit unfair that it won't get half as many mentions as that Canada goal.

He's not looked that competent at any point in the games/highlights I've seen but still, tue penalty save against the Argies was top draw.

I've never seen a national team look quite so cumbersome on the ball than this lot. I know they're only young, and I think the pitches over there are quite sticky, but I've lost count of the poor touches and number of times they've tripped or stumbled over the ball.

Sterling has been a real threat though.

Sterling and Powell look like the real prospects in that team.

Caskey looks tidy but not to the same level as those two.
