Change to alcohol laws?

FC Business magazine - an influential football trade magazine - has today launched a campaign to reverse the alcohol laws currently applying to football, Their campaign is headlined "Over The Limit and Out Of Order".

The objectives are :

- To open up the debate on alcohol consumption at matches
- Push for a full risk analysis on alcohol consumption at football matches
- Bring legislation into line with other sports

Reasons for campaign

- Increase football clubs' revenue generation potential
- End discrimination against football fans
- Reduce concourse congestion
- Reduce the incidence of binge drinking


It includes a quote from Baroness Browning, Minister for Crime, Prevention and Anti-Social Behaviour Reduction says:

"We know that the majority of football fans are responsible and that football related violence and disorder in England and Wales has been falling for a number of years. We have no plans to change the current law but expect police to continue working with fans and to use all the tools at their disposal to ensure that football matches remain a safer environment for all, setting a benchmark for the rest of the world."

What i dont understand is why you are not allowed to have a drink at your seat during a game?

Surely all that does is encourage people to binge as many pints as possible in 15mins or so

True - but like some gigs I've been to - we usually stock pile pints under our seats (usually a maximum of two pints per person - so you have to go back a few times). I wouldn't drink that much under the current football league rules. I think I had 7 beers at the gig, whereas a footy match, usually it's just a quick two pints at half time.

I can understand the desire to wet the whistle with a pint pre-game or even if you insist at HT, but cramming in a couple in during HT or storing pints under the seat to drink during the game is something I struggle with.

Mainly coz I've got a weak bladder!!

I don't like drinking quickly, although it's the best way with the piss they serve at the Mad stad.

I'd like to be able to turn up, get a pint and go out and watch the build up to and start of the game, rather than having to hang around in a crowded concourse. I'd then like to be able to grab another pint at half time (given it takes 15 minutes just to get one if you don't leave early) and take it back to my seat so I can drink it in peace.

Most importantly however, I'd like some decent fricking beer in the first place.

By "improve" you mean up the quality from undrinkable bilge to chemical filled fizzy piss?
