My thoughts exactly!! "It is theirs to win with Argentina gone" is all I've heard today.....Uraguay are where it is at!

Shaping up as an ultimate battle of the -guays on the evidence of the first 45 minutes of Chile-Venezuela in the last of the quarterfinals

Although the way this whole thing's gone, that'll be Peru and Venezuela nailed on for the final

Chile's sustained effort to knock down the goal have yet to end in success, but Suazo's latest contribution to the cause has resulted in a leveller on 70' in any event

Wow, this is gr7!

Venezuela a second, this one too the end product of a free-kick from distance

Then Medel of Chile sent off for a second yellow using his hand to stall a Venezuelan counterattack (and I've seen men sent directly off for less)

Three minutes-plus for Venezuela to hold on, and it's looking a huge ask

Rincon of Venezuela stupidly gets himself shown a straight red for cynical clutching/grabbing/hacking/anything deep into stoppage time as the winners can't get out of their own path to the corner flag to run out time

A thoroughly entertaining weekend of football that, albeit owing in some measure to the surprise results that the ~*cough*neutral*cough*~ cheers on

Semifinals (times BST)
WED 1:45 AM Peru v. Uruguay
THU 1:45 AM Paraguay v. Venezuela

Final next Sunday at the more convenient hour of 8 PM, and the third place match at the same hour on Saturday

Viva futbol, etc

Uruguay the best team in it and should win it now.

Keeping an eye on who's at risk for missing out on the final for picking up a second booking and so has to watch it out there, so here's the situación disciplinaria headed in...

Tuesday:
PERU
16 Advincula lm/s
2 Rodriguez lcd

URUGUAY
22 Caceres lb
20 Gonzalez rm
Two and off/banned: 15 Perez rm/rcm

Victorino, who was subbed off early against Argentina, will not feature in the back line for Uruguay, and Cavani remains out with the knee injury

Wednesday:
PARAGUAY
21 Estigarribia lcm/lm
13 Vera rcm/rm
8 Barreto rm
4 Marecos sub/lb
Straight red for fighting/banned: 5 Alcaraz lb/lcd

VENEZUELA
11 Gonzalez rm
Straight red: 8 Rincon lcm/rcm

Hadn't known that Uruguay and Argentina are level atop the all-time winners list in this competition with 14 apiece --more's the lolz

Think i'm going to avoid predicting what's going to happen in the next two nights seeing as this tournament has been full of so many surprises. Looking forward to the games though.

Totally, and I'll just expect the weird

We're guaranteed something rare and historic in the end --as noted, either Uruguay will stand alone as the winningest nation in the history of this thing, or we'll have first-timers in Venezuela, or Peru or Paraguay will do it for the third time and the first for either since the two of 'em went back to back in '75 and '79, respectively (or 13 and 12 renewals ago)

Would like to know what the odds were at the start of the tournament for a Peru - Venezuela final.

Been here before with Uruguay dominating games but not scoring but more one sided than the group game was.

Baba Booey pounces as Fernandez spills Forlan's 25-yard effort that replays show was headed behind

Very well taken goal...and now he's rounded the 'keeper and rolled in a second on 58'

So Vargas takes the tactical red for Peru as it all threatens to boil over (elbow to the face of Coates and not a lot in it, but the referee was all over it and so off he goes)

Suarez and Gargano subbed off at that point, and both had their names taken earlier

Game was pretty much over at that point although they made hard work of it obviously thinking it was. Frustrating to see Peru play well going forward after sitting back until it was too late.

Credit to Peru though for getting this far without Farfan and Pizzaro.

Yep they've given a decent accounting, and it looks like we'll have to wait until tomorrow for the shocker (eh not likely)

Good enough reason for me to cheer on Paraguay tonight, get to see Larissa Riquelme naked if they win the tournament!
