Went down with Alan Partridge to St Marys last night as i didn't have anything better to do. Game was never a 4-1 and was far more even than that in what was a decent tie, case of Southampton taking the chances that Torquay couldn't. Having not seen Saints' game on Saturday evening i though they looked a decent side who will be ok in the Championship but not at the top end.

Watching the highlights on BBC last night (or should I say, this morning  - how f*cking vital is it to schedule some dire BBC3 sitcom ahead of sports highlights) reminded me just what a tool Steve McLaren is. Before extra time at home against a team from the division below who themselves were almost relegated last season, he is stood addressing his players on the pitch holding a magentic board done up as a football pitch with magnets representing players looking like a complete helmet. Yeah, that great tactical insight helped as you ended up squeezing a last minute equaliser to sneak through on pens :| . I expected him to come out afternoon and say "Carling Cup, Nottsh County, Big gamesh".

Went to the match and Doobs was immense - just shows what the gap is between Championship and League 2. Oxford's new left-back Davis I'd say is also one to watch - looked way above League 2 level, but you can never say after one game.

Cardiff did not play anything near their first team and looked very average - Whittingham came on after about 20 minutes to replace an injured player and was by far the best player on the pitch. Another player who looked decent was a winger called 'Quinn' although he looked like he was carrying quite a bit of extra weight on him (the new Andy Reid!?).
