Friday's Legacy
Friday's Legacy prem update:

qpr 0 - 1 bolton

just noticed the back of the qpr's shirt as they trudged off for half-time. reading football club would do well to take notice. really nice blue hoops all the way around and red lettering/numbering with white outline. clear as day to read and the shirt looks very nice. quite why we have to a plain back i will never understand.

I had the exact same thoughts!! Hoops can be done

Franchise FC BMcD is on SSN now - this guy is the dogs ....

Forget about replacing Long, use some of that money to get this guy on a 3 year contract before the rest of the football world realise how good a coach/manager/man he is.

floyd_street, to me earlier, said not Reading will be bottom in a week. Leicester 4-0 Reading and we always lose at f*cking Portsmouth.

We do always lose at f*cking Portsmouth to be fair.

1-1 last year.

Not come together yet and I still think we need a couple more players to set us away from the pack. There's a few teams with teams just as good as us right now so more signings can step us up.

Those few teams are the likes of Barnsley and Watford on that showing, and there are an awful lot of teams better than them. Odd that their fans still assume they're automatically promotion candidates because they've spent money. They've essentially spent money on a lot of average players at this level. Danns didn't do much last season, Mills wasn't that highly rated for us considering he cost £2million and was captain, Nugent has a knack of missing sitters, Konchesky was poor for Forest from what I saw of him, Schmeichel is a good keeper but still conceded more than nearly any other in the division last season. St Ledger isn't the player he was and Johnson looked pretty bad in midweek after two years of injury. Fernandes and Peltier are the only two particularly good signings and still no Craig Bellamy or Adel Taraabt.

What I do know is that signing a couple more players is exactly what they dont need. What they need is to add players to the core of their squad that got them into this league and then the playoffs to complement them and not completely redesign them (because that'll take ages and the owners aren't patient enough). The likes of King, Wellens, Gallacher, Tunchev and Waghorn are all really good Championship players and are being forced to the fringes.

Agreed with this. Why you would not start Andy King at this level is beyond me; signing big names for the sake of it is really stupid and can upset the squad.

27 September 1998
Portsmouth 0-2 Reading

I was there 8)

Truth be told, you can't call yourself a proper Reading fan unless you've seen Reading win at Fratton Park

It was in the commentary three League and Cup doubles in three different countries bad managers do not do that. Just because England fans rate their country far higher than the team was capable of achieving doesn't make SGE a bad manager or Capello for that matter.

I've always hated our orange or red away kits. I've always thought the black strips are far better and would like to see them used every season.

Sven did OK with England--two quarter finals, and we were badly placed to qualify when he took over. Did better than McClaren and Capello, anyway.

Agreed - Reading away should be black, white or yellow.

Remember the ghastly purple-ish one in 2001/02? Horrific. The orange and blue on in 00/01 wasn't much better to be honest.

I seem to remember that the Westcoast ones were generally grim.

the minimum any england team should expect is a 1/4 final. sven was not a good manager for you. he achieved the very minimum and that wasn't good enough.

Disagree. Quarter Final's were about England's limit and Sven did it 3 times in a row. No one could have taken the team further, they just really weren't all that (though the newspapers convinced lots of stupid people that they were one of the best in the world)

Given that the salaries in La Liga are on a par with the EPL, how come there's not a long list of English players ripping it up in Spain.

It's because English players are not world class. The EPL is the spectacle it is because of the imports, not the Englishmen. We should be grateful making the quarters in any of these tournaments.
