Juventus v Notts County

Notts County are delighted to announce that the club has been invited to play Italian giants Juventus in a friendly match to mark the opening of the Serie A side's new state-of-the-art stadium in Turin.

The new 41,000-seater stadium is due to be officially launched at a ceremony on Thursday, September 8 and Notts have been invited to play in an exhibition match that evening to celebrate the occasion.

Notts Chairman Ray Trew, who has been in contact with his counterparts at Juventus in recent weeks, was delighted to announce the match and admitted that the opportunity was simply too good to turn down.

"I have to admit that when the offer first came in I was slightly taken aback and when we sat down to look at the fixture list, we've obviously got a home game against Walsall just two days later and then a trip to Exeter the following Tuesday," explained Trew.

"However, given the historical relationship between our two clubs and the sheer prestige of the occasion, we were prepared to move heaven and earth to make this happen.

"I have spoken to Martin Allen and whilst it's not ideal obviously, given the schedule of fixtures around that time, he was in agreement that we simply couldn't pass up this opportunity.

"It will be a fantastic night for everyone associated with this great football club, the players, the staff and of course the fans."

The link between Notts and Juventus stems back to 1903, when the Italian side asked one of their players, Englishman John Savage, if he had any contacts who could supply shirts in a colour that would better withstand the elements than the pink tops that they wore at the time.

Savage turned to a friend back in Nottingham, who was a Notts fan and he shipped out the famous black and white kit that the Magpies wore at the time and Juve have worn black and white stripes ever since.

Juventus are expected to wear pink shirts for the first half of the exhibition match in Turin, with Notts in black and white, before the Italian side change to their new home strip for the 2011/12 season in the second half and Notts don a specially commissioned all-white strip.

In honor of its origins, the club has retained the English spelling of its city's name, instead of changing it to the Italian Milano, although it was forced to do so during the fascist regime. Milan won its first Italian championship in 1901 and a further two in succession in 1906 and 1907.

It is. Go into it thinking of it as an information book. It's very interesting and fact-packed, but it's a hard read and certainly not a stylistic piece!


Tbh, I haven't finished it and it's been on the go for about 9months. But it is interesting, I promise.
