One thing that has worked for him is where we sit - we're at the back of the Upper West ...means he doesn't have anyone shouting from behind him which is less stressy for a youngster, but also means that he gets a great overview of the pitch (from being elevated) which really helps him to understand what's going on......

Same for my youngest (his ST is at the back of the East Stand) and he loves it.

That is something of a turn up for the books. There were two tiny children behind me but I'd have thought the liquor and the heat of the moment would have quelled any self-control. I do remember high-fiving them when we scored. *no pedalo*

Took my younger son to his first Reading game when he was 4...Wigan at home when Harper scored the winner four years ago. He was fine then and has gone from strength to strength ever since.

I agree with BBTL. If you are worried about the swearing then this is should be the golden rule that is hammered home. There's just not going to be any getting away from it. Be it the walk to the stadium, the match or the walk back. You ARE going to hear swearing. Especially the way we are playing.

First Reading game was Millwall at home when I was 6 and I subsequently used to stand down the front of the South Bank with loads of other kids as it meant we were close to the action.

The golden rule was hammered home to me all good and well and tbf it worked for a while - until we beat Wolves 2-1 in THAT game and I walked through the front door singing "f off Mark McGhee..."

We have always used the golden rule with my niece and nephews that what they hear (and see) at football stays at football. We also tried to give them alternative words to use so they could join in with the singing - who the flipping heck are we, the referees a veggie(a reference to an advert I believe which they actually came up with themselves). Now they are a bit older we tend to turn a deaf ear during the game.

It does give you some comedy moments tho - a couple of years ago as we were walking out by niece turned to me and said "I learnt a new word today, it begins with s" - I could only think of shit which she already knew - turns out it was slag!

There's a guy with 2 little girls who now sits next to me - one sits on his lap and the other has a seat. But it means I can't swear, at all, and I'm finding it very difficult. Please people with children, sit in the designated family area, wherever that is and if we haven't got one, make one soon RFC. Cheers then.

That's the problem isn't it? According to RFC the whole stadium is a designated family area... although I think you'd be asking for trouble if you took a 5 yr old into Y25/6.

As already outlined - my youngest has been going to homes games since he was 5 and he's always sat in Y25. Before I bought his ST this summer I asked him if he wanted to move and he said "but it's boring over there".
