Black players weren't as prevailent even 10 years ago.

The proportion of players who go onto manage is small anyway.

I bet the statistics would hold true (now, not a few years ago) that the number of black managers is actually representative of the number of black players that were playing during the playing era of the average manager these days.

Alan Partridge
Tony Le Mesmer Look at all levels of football. There are hardly any Black managers and lots of Black players. Keep it quiet, but that just might be because Black people make better players than they do managers.

More black players now - probably more black managers in the future compared to fewer black players 20 years ago - fewer black managers now. Fairly simplictic reasoning, that and also a lot of top professionals won't even bother with management, why do they need to do it? already millionaires. Most managers now didn't have that luxury when their playing days finished, Management or coaching was pretty much the only option within football. Sky have changed that now.

Absolutely spot on. It's not exactly rocket science.

That's my gut feeling. you need to look 10 if not 20 years back and compare the proportions like for like.

for best black manager? dear me.

this whole idea is wrong. you have an interview list based on quality. throwing in a black man in there because you have to is not going to increase the amount of black managers in the game.

the majority of managers are ex players, so as there are a lot of black players in the game today than 20 years ago means in the next 20 years we will start to see a big increase in black managers.

the fact there are so few right now is purely down to the fact they just aren't good enough, not because there is racism in football.

That's what they said about the workplace in general but black people are still routinely discriminated against when it comes to applying for jobs. Studies still show that typically 'black' names are less likely to get to the interview stage despite identical qualifications.
