Reading manager Brian McDermott has admitted he wants to get the club back into the Premier League – but if they fail he hopes his players earn moves there.
In recent times the Royals have seen Kevin Doyle and Shane Long amongst others fly the nest to Premier League clubs after learning their trade in Buckinghamshire[i].
And as the club looks to balance the books in the long run, McDermott insists if he can’t get Reading promoted he hopes his youngster can get moves to the top tier of English football.
He told Call Collymore: “Ideally we want to get ourselves into the Premier League and if we don’t do it ourselves then our players will go onto the Premier League. That would be regarded as success here.

“We have to run this football club so it can break even or remain in the black so we try to work with the players we’ve got.
