Hasn't SC previously said he's had enough of football though and has no plans to return with anyone?

Also, isn't he now a life president of STAR or something so he could feel a bit awkward leading another club against Reading :D

He's lost the drive and has retired from management. I'd say that's a pretty good reason not to want him back.

Maurice Evans was a good manager for us, not sure I'd want him back now though.

I'm not dead. Maurice is, which was kind of the point. Hadn't really thought it needed spelling out.

I'd have Coppell back, but only if he refound his desire and got back into management elsewhere first. Otherwise he's just going to be a huge disappointment.

He went back to Palace 3 times. I just don't see why he would want to go to a club with a crap stadium average gates of 13,000 and sinking, no training ground corpate facilaties boxes plus fans that are so fickle unless you win your first five games your out the door.

Stupid comment for you to make in all honesty. I'd have had Maurice back a few years ago too - both him and Coppell were of a similar mould - found gems that we managed to sell on for a big profit - after they performed well for us and were decent blokes who everyone looked up to and respected.

IR ...do you know Coppell personally then ? ...how do you KNOW he's lost his desire ?...what happened at Bristol City was nothing to do with him losing his desire....without going into too much depth, he was told he'd have carte blanche control over all player affairs AND THAT INCLUDED transfers ...the rest is history, but you cannot say someone has lost their desire without having the facts to support it ...unless,as i said, you know him personally ?

I don't like the thought of a manager returning unless you felt there was 'unfinished business' somewhere. Coppell has nothing to prove here, nothing to gain. It would almost certainly be worse if he was to come back and whats the point of tainting a legacy.

When you listen to Coppell you get honesty, he hates a lot of what football has become (so do I) and a season genuinely tires and wears him down. He still loves the game, the match, working with players and it's that drug that pulls him back and why if he is talking to Pompey is down to that. I really think he found a perfect fit at Reading, put his life and soul into it and to put that much commitment in again somewhere else is a big task. He said as much himself that ideally after a season he'd take a 5-6month gap, before starting again but there isn't an off season. He then has to deal with players, pre season etc like all managers so you never get a real break. That along with the press was what really grinded him down and wore him out.

WOuld love to see him back in the game, football wins if people like Coppell are back involved as he's everything a manager should be.
