Buses After the Game

by Pandoras Box » 02 Dec 2011 14:00

Who on earth let the cars out before the buses on Tuesday night? I get a bus 1) to be green 2) so I don't get caught up in all the traffic on the A33 as they are let out first and c) so I therefore get home quicker.
On Tuesday the buses got caught in the traffic and I got back 15 minutes later. If this is to be the case, it costs £8 at the stadium car park or £8 return for my daughter and me on the bus - if we get home at the same time I might as well drive in future.

Probably just a cock-up, buses are normally let out before cars.

Anyone know if the traffic lights on the main roundabout at the bottom of Royal Way / A33 have a special phasing for use before / after events at the stadium?

The lights are directly controlled from the stadium control room - giving priority to buses. That's why they try to get all the buses to leave together in one convoy.

Also the reason that roundabouts on the A33 have been replaced with traffic lights - you can't regulate traffic flow and priorities on a roundabout like you can with lights.

While we're talking buses, how long after the game does the last bus back to the station leave? Just wondering if I have a few beers in the Jazz cafe after the game whether I'll be stranded.

Shambles from our driver on Tuesday at the front of the queue. Two kids sneaked on and after getting them off decided to stand outside for ten minutes talking to a steward when she could have just got on the bus and everyone could have got out before the cars.

Just for future reference.

http://www.readingchronicle.co.uk/news/ ... -to-close/

STATION Hill will close to all traffic in the new year for 18 months.

The closure will begin on January 9 and allow Reading Borough Council and Network Rail to continue the multi-million pound redevelopment of the station. The work includes lowering the road to create a new entrance and subway.

Access for pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained throughout but bus services - including the football and rugby shuttles, 142 to Checkendon and Green Park and Madejski Stadium park and ride services - will be relocated to the former Alder Valley bus station, which has been refurbished, off Station Hill. The inbound Pink 22 and 24, which drop off at the station before 9am, will set down in Greyfriars Road.

Transport and planning leader, Cllr Tony Page, said: "The station works will inevitably cause disruption, but we will always aim to keep these to an absolute minimum. However, it will be worthwhile in the enormous benefits to be delivered.'

The underground car park, off Blagrave Street near Apex Plaza, is open until 11pm instead of 9.30pm and can be used as a collection and drop-off point.
