I'm pretty sure this thread is causing me clinical depression

Nice to see that Simon Church has finally found a way of beating the keeper.

.....and being the club's top scorer. That might suggest he knew it already.

Ian Royal I wonder if he's perhaps a little too similar to ALF, although they're doing ok.

I don't think they're the best strike partnership for this side, though they are the best two strikers. As long as we insist on playing long ball, we'd be better off playing Manset with one of them. Right now that means dropping Le Fondre

I meant when he's one-on-one with the keeper rather than in the right place at the right time so to speak.

I like Churchy. I think he proved he was a good striker some time ago but went off the boil a bit. Hopefully, we've now seen that spark lit again.

Simon Church is 22 months younger than Shane Long.

Simon, this Saturday was the age Shane was on 20th January 2010

To that date Shane had scored 1 goal that season and his total in 3.5 seasons was 20 goals (League & Cup)

Shane's full debut was 4 Years and 21 Days earlier.

Simon's League Debut was 1,209 days ago. So in 173 days less he has scored 3 goals more.

My heart still prefers Shane, but Church is on schedule (or ahead of schedule) to be a very very decent striker.

He has 3-4 years of improvement in him

That wasn't one-on-one.

Snowball's new to the Church bandwagon. Some of us have been on it (with the occaisonal slip off  ) for two or three seasons.

This is the same bloke who claimed he was the only person who thought Ian Harte would score goals, and was in a tiny minority who rated Kebe.

What do you take "Agreed. I'm not exactly getting excited yet." to mean?

I'm on no "bandwagon", merely pointing out some facts and stats
to highlight that, as usual, Reading FC fans write players off far too soon

The entire squad has been written off on here, some before they've even played a game.

.. he is the club's top scorer this season. You are a dick. (I could be more eloquent but it would be wasted on you).

He's making me look like a right cnut for starting this thread. Amazing what a bit of confidence can do!
Still not convinced about him though...

Playing him in as the target man isn't quite coming off. He needs to absorb and control the ball at pace. Something Shane was very adept at. Sharpen up his decision making and with time and patience-who knows?
Brian clearly has the faith.

27th August, before Church was in the team - I claim my Snowball moment...

manny96 Right, I'm sticking my balls on the line to say Simon Church will come good this season...

I'm pretty tired of people failing to see the difference between the statements "Simon Church is gash" and "Simon Church is playing gash" and condemning a player to the shitheap despite having seen he is capable.

Might come back to haunt me but that's how it goes. SIMON CHURCH WILL SCORE AT LEAST 10 GOALS AND 15 GOALS IF HE GETS A DECENT RUN IN THE TEAM.

albeit...

manny96 This however is based on the far more sound science of blind faith and hope.
