Cobi
boycey True that TMD

its only clubs like reading that bang on about it.

Every other club just gets on with it.

You should read a few other football forums then, as it's one of the most talked about topics.

It takes a special kind of tard to go reading another clubs forum.

TheMaraudingDog The term 'safe standing' makes me cringe to be fair and the whole campaign is being ran by people who would have been ran off the terraces when they were about.

The clubs that have a decent number of people who want to stand let the fans stand anyway so either bring back a proper terraces or leave things be.

Safe standing? No thanks.

Assume that is a wind up. Otherwise massive LOL. Clearly you don't go to enough United games. How many fans were they allowed at Anfield this year due to persistent standing?

And LOL at "run off the terrace"; no one's been run off a terrace for about 15/20 years. And to see that as a barometer for wanting to stand. Just LOL. How many times you take an end in the 70s and 80s then? LOL again.

Make that 30 years. The whole notion of taking somebody's end pretty much stopped once segregation was brought in.

I've no idea who the individuals fronting the safe standing campaign are, but I'd have thought it prudent to have it promoted by people who'd look "normal" in the eyes of those who matter, rather than some pwoper nawty lads who'd just comfirm their worst fears.

TBH, the objections to safe-standing from football authorities and clubs have long since moved away from being safety-related. The vast majority of the objections raised are public-order related.

I thought that you disapproved of running people?

...yet if terraces were brought back, and put at the opposite end of the ground from the away fans, there'd probably be less trouble inside grounds than now. If the North stand, for example, was made into a terrace, would fans really prefer to sit in Y25/Y26 just so they could be nearer the away fans?

If they moved there'd be far fewer incidents in the corner between home and away fans.

Yep good point.

Common sense would suggest to avoid that issue you would put the standing areas at opposite ends of the ground (e.g. at the back of the stand behind each goal).

Would actually make TVPs life easier I'm sure....rather than having muppets running across seats and sliding down Tarpaulin...giving TMG a wet dream.

ZacNaloen As long as the scottish fans at the big clubs don't ruin it, by giving the FA an easy excuse, this can only be a good thing for football supportors.

Celtic & Rangers fans would never do anything that could potentially cause an issue here, shirley!?

Not sure I'd switch to the North just for standing, I don't like the end on view. Ideal solution would be to make the North and East block's next to each other safe standing (in our case) Furthest from the away fans, not in the West and you can pick a side or end on view as it suits your inclination.

You wouldn't need, or necessarily want, the away end to also be terracing.

Even in the days of terracing, it was pretty rare to see hooligan-related pitch invasions from the home terraces. There isn't a huge case for suggesting crowd trouble would rise from having home terraces, especially if at the far end from away fans.

There is perhaps a case for being wary of away terracing though.

Tokyo Sex Whale They had a mini "debate" about it on 5 live this morning with the "against" camp being represented by a lady who's son was one of the 96 and made a big point about her point not being backed up by emotion. She then went on to say that safe standing was not justified, even with the advancements in technology of seating and ticketing as nobody had ever been held responsible for the failings on that day at Hillsborough.... Whats that got to do with the price of bread?!

She is a regular participant in these things - she scours the media for anything she can turn up to related to standing. And she never, ever has a coherent argument.

You just can't argue with a bereaved mother though, can you?

Another fine point!

Would also help drive demand. If some clubs have standing at home, the away fans will want this at their own ground and put pressure on their own club to deliver it.
