Not Getting Tickets

There is a big derby here tonight - German Cup - Nuremberg - Fürth - two neighbouring cities and one of the most famous rivalries in German football. The tickets sold out immediately but I have always managed to get tickets for games I really wanted to get tickets for. Luck, contacts and I don't know what. It made me think though - has it ever happened to you that you really wanted (and really tried) to get tickets for a game ... but failed?

Arsenal v Reading @ Highbury in the CC, when it was their last year at Highbury. Gutted I failed to get tickets for that.

Reading vs Bolton, April 1995. Actually had a ticket but couldn't get into the ground with it before they shut the gates.

Failed to get a ticket for the 1FC Koln vs. VFB Stuttgart when I visited my Gran last year, despite having a few contacts including a kid who played for one of their youth teams, could have tried harder like going to the ground but went to a Fortuna Dusseldorf game at Europes first collapsible stadium, that was only in place for 6 home games. One for the groundhoppers.

Weirdest atmosphere ever. So many people, so little noise.

Reading vs Bolton, April 1995. Actually had a ticket but couldn't get into the ground with it before they shut the gates.

Remarkably, the 100s of Reading fans who got into the Town End were escorted into the "full" Southbank after about 15 mins.

Make it a personal rule to myself that I will never sit with home fans. Did have the option but it wouldn't have been the same and I wanted to be in the Reading end. Watching the other fans celebrate is hard enough, but to be in with them while they are celebrating, I don't think I could hack it.

Same game but no ticket. Got to within 2 of the Southbank turnstiles when they decided enough was enough. Legged it around the ground even trying the Bolton end but to no avail.
