Alan Hansen Apologises For Describing Black Players

by FiNeRaIn » 22 Dec 2011 14:58

As "coloured"

Former Liverpool footballer Alan Hansen has apologised after describing black players as "coloured" during a debate on Match of the Day.

Hansen angered viewers after he twice referred to black players as "coloured" when discussing the race row threatening to engulf the sport.

At the time he said: "There's a lot of coloured players in all the major teams and there's a lot of coloured players that are probably the best in the Premier League."

Hansen has now apologised "unreservedly" for using the term.

He said: "I unreservedly apologise for any offence caused. This was never my intention and I deeply regret the use of the word."

VOTE: Was Hansen wrong to use the term 'coloured players'?

England Captain John Terry was told yesterday that he would be charged following allegations of racially abusing Queens Park Rangers player Anton Ferdinand.

On Tuesday Liverpool's Luiz Suarez was banned for eight matches and fined £40,000 for using a racist insult against Manchester United's Patrice Evra.

This is getting silly now. Someone needs to put a stop to this over PC..people choosing to get offended nonsense. Growing up I was taught by my teachers not to use the phrase " black people" and that " couloured" was the correct term...now black people are kicking off about that too?

Just what the FVCK do we call them which will make them all happy and content? Holy shit.

I heard that at the time and Mrs TB and I raised an eyebrow. A lot of it is a generation thing. Like Hansen has the ability to cause anyone offence - unless it is in relation to shocking defending.

REminds me of when I was in Cape Town about 10 years ago. Was in a cab driven by a Cape Coloured and he told me about an old British / South African woman who was in his cab recently. He stated very matter of fact what she said about the political situation and I quote

I much prefered the old days when you could call a kaffir a kaffir

I'm guessing when people were taught not to use black it was without anyone having actually asked any black people.

Why on earth would you call them coloured? They aren't purple!

And lets face it, anyone who doesn't know "coloured" isn't an acceptable term must have been frozen in a stasis tank for the last 20 years. Still, apology and lesson learned is all that's needed.

Different sayings for different generations.

60's - NigNogs
70's - Coloureds
80's - Blacks
90's - Wassup Nigga
00's onwards - Nothing, as every name is offensive.

Utter garbage I haven't heard one person make noises about this not being acceptable until today. Hansen was trying his hardest NOT to offend anyone and be as displomatic as possible, he's a good 30 years or so older than me and my friends and I were taught to use coloured, never seen it raise an eye brow at all. Whats sickening is that people now are CHOOSING to get offended and make issues over everything.

They seriously want people to stop using this? Fine...lets have members of the black communities come out and give us the correct term to use going forward then and we'll teach that in schools. This is an utter joke
