Fair play to the AZ manager taking his team off. Players' safety is paramount.
I await the usuals arriving to quote the football rulebook, but Esteban was totally justified in lashing out at the 'fan'. You can see he is scared, he lines up to defend himself from the late-arriving steward too.
Game was subsequently called off.

Did the game ever re-start? I think the manager taking the team off was more because of the red than the attack wasn't it?

Have to say the ref looks like a proper knob jockey. Letter of the law he was probably right, but show a bit of common sense!

How could they give the keeper a red card for violent conduct directed towards a fan? What was he supposed to do? Stand there and hope he didn't get maimed, or worse, by the lunatic? How could he be sure he didn't have some sort of weapon on him? And having watched the video after the jerk was on the ground he first tried to get up as the keeper kicked him some more, and then the jerk was still reaching for the keeper once security had him pinned to the ground.
The Dutch FA was right for not suspending Alvarado but wrong defending the ref's giving of a red card for violent conduct. What they don't seem to realize was it wasn't Alvarado who initiated this. He didn't go into the stands and attack the fan, he was was protecting himself, as anyone would be expected to do when a druken crazed fan runs onto the pitch to attack a player that he stated "he hates". This is much different even than Cantona's infamous kung-fu kick.

Rightly recinded, but the Ref was put in a bad spot. Dont send him off and he'd probably get downgraded or something.

Violent conduct warrants a red card regardless who is on the receiving end. Common sense has prevailed with it being rescinded - as happened in the Havant & Waterlooville v Dorchester game last season.
