With a total of 3 arrests .... the numbers are so small as to be statistically insignificant. You ought to be a tabloid sub-editor!

What comes under missle throwing then?

I don't think I've ever seen a missle being thrown this season.

Apart from QPR away last season.

Throwing of coins, keys, bottles & cans, mobile phones - technically any "missile". A few years ago a supporter was prosecuted for throwing a peanut.

Lies, damn lies, and statistics...why not pick up on the fact that overall arrests makes us one of the best-behaved clubs?

Grimsby's banning order numbers seems excessive compared to number of potential supporters. Is this still from the day when they got relegated (and reacted badly)?

Also, Dirk, have the FSF or related organisations ever campaigned against the release of arrest statistics? I've always thought it that it was challengeable under English law, and that conviction statistics would be much more appropriate. Numbers of banning orders is a step in the rght direction.

Final debating question - is raking football studs down someone else's knee the sort of event that might attract a banning order? Would someone like to test it out on a tango?

They're just nutjobs, innit.

I remember TTB doing an article about a trip to Grimsby in the early 90s when a handful of locals wandered up to one the contributors in the away end and asked where the "top boys" were. I've been there a couple of times. Having a pre-match drink in the pubs near the Blundell Park is an experience.

Don't believe so - because I don't think there are definitive stats on numbers of convictions (well, there *nearly* are, because CPS protocol is to apply for a banning order with every football-related conviction, so number of FBOs is very close to number of convictions.)

But the number of arrests is so ridiculously low that that figure alone supports the argument that the vast, vast majority of supporters are not hooligans.

I know a fair few people who have been charged with a football related offence but not got a banning order. infact i can include myself in that list so once again you are speaking utter tosh.

Give it up pal.

Ah, the knee-jerk post that just has to contrdict ... I wondered how long it would be.

I'll take the ACPO & CPS statement on Prosecution Policy for Football Related Offences http://www.cps.gov.uk/publications/prosecution/football_offences_policy.html as well as my own knowledge and experience on this one.

....
The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) will continue to operate a robust prosecution policy for football related offences during 2009/10 and beyond. This means that there will be a presumption of prosecution whenever there is sufficient evidence to bring offenders before a court on appropriate criminal charges and where a Football Banning Order (FBO) is considered necessary. As well as tackling violence, disorder and criminal damage we will deal robustly with offences of racist and indecent chanting and other types of hate crime. We recognise, as do the overwhelming majority of decent fans, that there is a place for humour in football but where the line between humour and offensive behaviour is crossed then positive action will be taken. We will also take firm action against those guilty of ticket touting which will include an application for a FBO.
.....

I didn't write that TTB match report, but I did write the directions from station to ground in the previous issue which started with something like "Ignore the home fans waiting for you on the station platform and turn left..."

Own knowledge and experience - give it a rest.

And do you really take what's written on a peice of paper as gospel?
