At 1-0 down, reduced to 10 men, with a referee who they felt was giving everything against them, and with known electrical problems from the start, I wonder just how much effort they put into fixing them? So far from a shambles, it may have been very sensible.

For a shambles, look at Reading in the 1970s - fog-inducing floodlights forcing an Elm Park game to be called off when we were winning 3-0 and there was no fog anywhere else in the town (although as I recall we won the rearranged fixture 3-0 anyway). And someone else may know more details about another game, where it had to be abandoned because someone flicked a switch the wrong way when the floodlights were about to come on - the problem being that the lights took 30 minutes to warm up.

Neighbour is a Southend fan and attended this match. By sheer coincidence he says that during match he was chatting to a steward who said things are not alright with the club and dodgy shanighans at afoot at the club! Five minutes later the lights went out lol

Referees and floodlights! FWIW, there have been 3 floodlight failures at Windsor this season of one type or another. Thankfully, all behind us. However, on the last abandonment, one bank of lights died. The light cast by the other bank was better than a number of grounds I have been to this season with all the lights on. Lies at the discretion of the referee but if all the lights have gone out then there is not much that the officials can do apart from abandon the game.

I went to a game in the Czech Republic once and all the electricity in the stadium failed, but they had to carry on because the game was on tv. They did fixed the problem before it got properly dark, but it was distinctly gloomy.

A saw a game in the national stadium in Phnom Penh not so long ago, and that did more or less end in darkness as the teams couldn't afford to turn the floodlights on. I missed one goal down the far end as it was so dark that I couldn't tell what had happened.

Some Southend supporters looking to take legal action against Aldershot because No refunds are being offered for this match, because it wasn't abandoned until half-time.

Ordinarily that's fair enough for weather postponements etc - although there should at least be a reduced price for the replay of this, and that's not even being offered.

But the argument here is that Aldershot knew before the game started that they had potential floodlight problems - and kept quiet about them and still staged the game.

Shouldn't this be in the non-league football thread?
