Best Away pub?

by JR » 02 Jan 2012 09:45

Two questions....

What is your best away game pub:

A) on the road to a game
B) at or in the vicinity of the ground

Mine are

A) The Boot Inn, Lapworth - excellent food and ales selection
B) social club at Blackpool - very welcoming and excellent pre-game buzz

Yep, the away pub near Ewood Park is excellent. Well-oiled machine.

Livingstone Arms, Gillingham. Friendly boozers which actively welcomes away fans, located a long throw away from the away terrace. You don't get hushed up when you have a good old pre-match sing-song either.

The Dove at Barnsley.

The landlord won an episode of Bullseye.

A number of great pubs near Leyton Orient including their own social club which seems to tolorate away fans and the King William IV down the road, which has it's own brewery in the back (Brodies beer)

There seems to be a few good boozers for Crystal Palace games, like the Cherry Trees opposite Norwood Junction station, they had a decent pub rock band in last time.

That's the one - and despite being packed (full of people and inflatables!) they still managed to provide decent and friendly service. Some pubs can't provide that when you're the only person in there, let alone when it's packed full of football fans.

Ahh yeah not a bad shout as it goes. Spent a good few hours in there a few years ago because I hadn't realise the kick off time had been pushed forward for Sky TV. Didn't mind though as it was a good laugh in there.

Some anti-football Nazi on the local council has prevented it opening on matchdays.

O RLY? Since when? Sad news.

Last Reading game I went to (bar the recent day trip to the play off final) was Fulham away circa 2006 and enjoyed a pre match beverage at that establishment.

And who was the nazi? I live in H&F so will be sure not to vote for them at the next LOLcal election.
